SENIUR PLAY After long weeks of rehearsal, die Seniors, on the nights of November 21 and 22, pre- sented their play, Dear Ruth, a comedy in two acts by Norman Krasna. The story is about a 16 year old girl, Miriam fNorma Billsj Wilkens, who has been writing to Bill CCharlie Chasel Seawright, an Air Force Lieutenant who is stationed in Italy and signing her sister, Ruth's fSuzs Christensenl name no the letters. The plot develops as Ruth an- nounces to her parents, Judge Harry CRollie Hoffmanl and Edith CPolly Nielsenl Wilkens, her engagement to Albert fGeage MacDonald! Kummer. Naturally, Albert is enraged when Bill arrives from overseas to woo Ruth. Lt. Seawrighr brings along his friend, Sgt. Chuck CHoot Frareyl Vincent. When Martha lRosie Phillipsj Seawright, Bill's sister and former fiancee of Chuck's comes to the Wilkens' home, more comedy complications arise. Ever helpful Dora, the maid Qjanie Pulverl and Harold Klobbermeyer, a sailor CDavid Keyserl provide more laughs. Minor castastrophies occurred when Edith Nielsen developed laryngitis the day of the play and Albert MacDonald forgot to carry the all-important blueprints on stage and was slipped these by backstage help. Lines were forgotten and prompting was needed, but then we won't forget the time Mr. Smingler had trying to cast the role of Bill. Three boys tried this part before it was finally awarded to Charlie Chase. Under the direction of Mr. john Smingler and student director, Pat Adams, all ended well and the senior play was termed a success by the audiences. 42
