The class officers were jim Van Wie, Presi- dent, George MacDonald, Vice-President, Norman Oliver, Secretary, Helen Hadnom, Treasurer. Our Student Council representatives were Pat Adams and Francis McGory. A hayride was the social function that started the ball rolling. Along with the hayride came the class project of selling yellow socks with GCS printed on them. Becoming quite active in various activities of the school, we had eight members on the j.V. basketball team, five members on the j.V. cheerleading squad and two on the Varsity squad. The interclass basketball games proved to be very exciting, even though we lost. The girls also had a basketball team that beat Canandaigua Academy but later lost to Geneva. jim Van Wie and Helen Hathorn were elected Lord and Lady at the junior Prom this year. As brilliant Sophomores, we were anxious to get back in the groove knowing we would get our class rings. With Mr. Kinyon and Miss Call as advisors, we elected George MacDonald, President, Alma Lambert, Vice-President, jane Pulver, Secretary, Charles Chase, Treasurer, and Beatrice Terwilliger, Parliamentarian. Again Pat Adams was our Student Council representa- tive, along with Wilbur Allen. The social hi-lite of the year was our Soph-Hop with the Great Westemersn as the orchestra. Our money-raising project was a bake sale. As far as sports were concerned, we had one member on the Varsity team and six members on the J.V. basketball team. The Varsity cheerleading squad was made up of seven Sophomores and the j.V. squad consisted of two of our members. Our junior year was hi-lited with our first formal dance, Moonlight and Roses. Miss Fuller and Mr. Kinyon were our advisors this year. We elected Earl Frarey, President, Norma Bills, Vice-President, Aletha Stone, Secretary, Dolores Knopf, Treasurer, Pat Adams, News Reporter. Our class was represented in the Student Council by Helen Hathom and Wilbur Allen. Needless to say, the junior Plays provided a lot of fun and entertainment. His First Shave was directed by Mr. Smingler, Senior High English teacher and A Girl In Every Port was directed by Miss Andreasen, junior High English teacher. Of course, we were represented in many sports and activities. The Pdnce and Princess at the junior Prom were Earl Frarey and Nonna Bills. We were proud to have Francis McGory and George MacDonald at Boys' State. Barbara Nielsen re- ceived the award for the highest average. Our Senior year is well on its way. Our first oficial act, as a Senior class, was the election of officers with Earl F rarey again as President, Dolores Knopf, Vice-President, Shirley Christen- sen, Secretary, Pouline Nielsen, Treasurer, Rose Phillips, News Reporter. Dolores Knopf was also elected President of Student Cotmcil with four fellow seniors as representatives. Our ad- visors for the year were Miss Fuller and Mr. Bills. The year's social activities included the annual Senior Play, Dear Ruth, and the Senior Ball with Winter Starlight as the theme. Old Clothes Day was definitely a treat and proved to be very entertaining. We worked as busy as bees to put forth an annual that will be remembered throughout the years. Now, as SENIORS, we'll be leaving, with our hearts forever grieving, Dear Old Gorham High! lx 1 Q 1 E l l w fi! Z L A , Z2 fi ? g X X X RA . The time,is June 22, 2053. Listen, is that a jet I hear? No, it's jimmy Van Wie in his 1937 Hudson. He s home on furlough from Annapolis Naval Academy, with his ins tructor, Admiral David Keyser. r Mademoiselle Perry Uoj, the famous French hair stylist, is arriving with jane Austin in her Jet jaguar. June is a hostess in Ville Franche' on the Riveria. Dolores Knopf and George Mac- Donald, who are in parmersnip with their Mac-Knopf Science Laboratory, inform us that they regret they are unable to leave their scientiic inventions. They have just invented a new semm which enables people to live two hundred years. However, they have sent representatives of their lab and here they come now. Why, it's Pouline Nielsen, Mary Muckle and Helen Weeks. Roland Hoffman, Chief justice of the Supreme Court, and his secretary, Alecha Stone, arrived by jet plane last night and stayed ovemight at the Frarey estate. Shirley Christensen, who is just winding up a personal appearance tour by visiting Aloquin, has just completed the hit movie, Good-bye, Sam . Voices are heard coming toward the bam. Look! It's Helen Hathorn and jane Pulver. Helen tells us that she is a hostess at Artie Brown's and jane is a hairdresser at Pierre's in New York City. Meanwhile, of course, she is still wait- ing for a certain sailor to come home. And speaking of the navy, here comes a couple of navy personnel, Betty Miller and Barbara Treadwell. They are still training at Great Lakes. Who could be rolling into the driveway now but Rose Hall fPhillipsJ with Flossie Clarke -as a passenger, seeing as how Flossie doesn't have her license yet. Rosie is a secretary at Robson Seed Farms on Mars and Flossie nms the elevator at the Clifton Sanirarium. Wilbur fWillieJ Allen has consented to dismount from his jet propelled tractor long enough to attend this square dance. With him comes another ex-Fergusonite, Charles Tomion, who is now a curtain puller at the Metropolitan Opera House. The Secretary of Agriculture fCharles Chase! will not be here for this occasion. His secretary, Barbara Nielsen, has written us that, due ro previous engagements on Pluto, they will be unable no come. Here comes a jet Rocket 88 no less. Naturally we already know who is behind the wheel. Hi, Pat Adams. Glad to have you aboard. We hear you are the New jersey G.L.F. Manager's private secretary now on an assignment on Jupiter. After raking roll call, I find that the only two who aren't here are Beatrice Terwilliger and Carol McWilliams. They will probably be coming any minute now. Bea is still teaching music at Metro and Carol is hostess at Roose's. Now that all are accounted for, the excitement will begin. Francis McGory's band is here to furnish the music for this great occasion. X 9 X ZZ ff If f ZZ 44 44 44 Z2 EE 54 22 i? r-ES i Ea: E- it 22 it SE as ii SS SQ QS Qx as NN SS X N XX NX X Z? The story is about a 16 year old girl, Miriam fNorma Billsj Wilkens, who has been writing to Bill CCharlie Chasel Seawright, an Air Force Lieutenant who is stationed in Italy and signing her sister, Ruth's fSuzs Christensenl name no the letters. The plot develops as Ruth an- nounces to her parents, Judge Harry CRollie Hoffmanl and Edith CPolly Nielsenl Wilkens, her engagement to Albert fGeage MacDonald! Kummer. Naturally, Albert is enraged when Bill arrives from overseas to woo Ruth. Lt. Seawrighr brings along his friend, Sgt. Chuck CHoot Frareyl Vincent. When Martha lRosie Phillipsj Seawright, Bill's sister and former fiancee of Chuck's comes to the Wilkens' home, more comedy complications arise. Ever helpful Dora, the maid Qjanie Pulverl and Harold Klobbermeyer, a sailor CDavid Keyserl provide more laughs. Minor castastrophies occurred when Edith Nielsen developed laryngitis the day of the play and Albert MacDonald forgot to carry the all-important blueprints on stage and was slipped these by backstage help. Lines were forgotten and prompting was needed, but then we won't forget the time Mr. Smingler had trying to cast the role of Bill. Three boys tried this part before it was finally awarded to Charlie Chase. Under the direction of Mr. john Smingler and student director, Pat Adams, all ended well and the senior play was termed a success by the audiences. 42 DEAR RUTH SENIOR PLAY CAST Seated, First Row, L. to R.: E. DePew, Mgr. The bright spot of a season of basketball disappointment has been the fine showing of the jay Vees. In spite of the fact that the team's strength was often depleted, due to absence or varsity service, the boys have rolled to six wins in ten games, losing twice in overtime thrillers. They have held a scoring edge over the opposition of 34 points. There are five sophomores on the starting combination and they show a good balance of size, speed, shooting ability and de- fense. If these boys can maintain the present rate of improvement, they will be a strong contend- er in the varsity race the next two seasons. 48 wo' G eo'A'e X , .1.e5p,,'.1u Rollie 0' 49 Mac BASKETBALL jim Y Y p Bill Phil Eleven consecutive losses do not look im- pressive in the record boolts. Some consola- tion may be gained by the fact that the margin of loss in many of these games has been so small that one good defensive move or one good shot could have tumed defeat into vic- tory. The team has been especially sharp at times but has failed when the chips were on Bob th li wlllcky e ne. The failure to win has been disappointing to the coaching staff, with early season pre- dictions of a good year falling very short of expectations. The fact that none of the play- ers has been able to rise no a natural position of floor general and carry the team over the rough spots has been an important factor. The second half collapse on so many occasions is indicative of poor conditioning. A team must be able to carry a full head of steam for the entire game to win the close ones. Senior Captain Rollie Hoffman, Earl Frarey, jim VanWie, George MacDonald, and Francis McGory will be lost by graduation. Retuming starters, Darrell Weichenthal and joe Frankovitch, will be flanked by Phil Freeman, Karl Perry, Lyman Wood and Babe Pol- manteer. With some fine replacements moving up from the jayvees, we will go out on the limb again and predict a winning season next year. 50 'inf' Q Spf ,-17'fLw7 5 , If -I ..'- .. ,..., my we gf . ., M ft MA Q ,A '1H,f.,. dw Qs:-x f ,.. . . ad' .E 2 k 5 M Q X -YA M fig! .- Y A. 14 'S-fs , L a iw MQ'-5 Y if L 4 fEwgg rwf,-9 ,a4w EL ' Q L' 11' 5 in , L L S E- 4. 1 f Zg5i3gg.1i5n2 ' 5, 2 AQ ?w4fgQ A 215 E26ef, 4? -A 2 f 1 A J. . x 5 fe' .5 S 1251 fa A SUCCER First Row, L. to R.: K.
