lllE DEUICHTE We might have forgotten about the splendor of God. . .we might have let our ideas about it stay only in the Ideal World. . .except that one beau- tiful September day this year, our best friend and leader quietly put aside his work and walked out of the glory of autumn into the unclouded Vision of God. Father Albert Haver- kamp,O.S.B.,amanwho loved earth's common beauties and who had lived 55 years in the consciousness of God's presence, went to His reward September 30, 1949. And so we dedicate our 1950 Trojan to you, Father Al- bert. Pastor of Seneca for two years, executor of the school's improvement program, lover of singing and praying, you left us an example to follow and a memory to love. Always as we turn the pages of this book we shall re- member the vibrancy of your voice as you sang the Preface, andthe kindliness of your smile on the playground. We shall remember how you made our old school a place of beauty, as you painted walls and ceilings on hot days, installed new light fixtures and Venetian blinds, equipped a library, and dreamed of a new school. We shall remember your thirst for beauty as you directed THE UPPER ROOM, THE VAL.- IANT, and started the parish Holy Hour that man might taste more deeply of God. And we shall rejoice that you are wait- ing for us now in the beauty which 'eye hath not seen, nor ear heard. 5
