emgim Jclfavf 61166 rg Zan The Concert Band has been very active for the past two years, especially considering that they were two years of war. During the school year of '43-'44 the band played a series of six concerts dedicated to the purpose of selling war bonds and stamps. At these concerts the l .md sold S46,456.00 in stamps and bonds to the citizens of Seminole. This school year, the band is engaged in a series of concerts dedicated to raising funds for the Gonzales Warm Spring Foundation, Gonzales, Texas- a hospital for the treatment of infantile paralysis. We as a band are proud to have sponsored these two projects. Music for these concerts has included many classical standards and pro- gram music, b11t at all times music by American composers has been played more than other types. Student soloists with the 'band this year were Almeta Lindley, Beverly Besancon, Dan Moody Whitaker, and Iohnnie Gilmer. Dale McCook is completing his third year as director of the band. Both the band and Mr. McCook express appreciation to the school and the school patrons for their cooperation these past three years. N11 1-in A ll f e :Y gl A97 .2 1 i . A 'Q gy - 4,

IOHNNIE GILMER DALE MCCOQK Drum M059 Director With capable student leadership, the Band has operated for the past two years on a Democratic basis oi student self-government. A constitution and by-laws were drawn up outlining purposes ot Band and suggesting procedure to accomplish those purposes. Self-imposed fines for infractions of these rules not only help to teach self-discipline, but provide funds tor picnics and probable Spring banquet. t Regular meetings each month offer a chance to practice this self-govern- ment and also provide a time and place for soloists and ensembles to play new numbers for the first time. The Band membership express appreciation to their officers and librarians, Almeta Lindley and Charlie Iarneson and their property manf Kenneth Mun- nerlyn for their leadership and throughout the year.
