During the school year of '43-'44 the band played a series of six concerts dedicated to the purpose of selling war bonds and stamps. At these concerts the l .md sold S46,456.00 in stamps and bonds to the citizens of Seminole. This school year, the band is engaged in a series of concerts dedicated to raising funds for the Gonzales Warm Spring Foundation, Gonzales, Texas- a hospital for the treatment of infantile paralysis. We as a band are proud to have sponsored these two projects. Music for these concerts has included many classical standards and pro- gram music, b11t at all times music by American composers has been played more than other types. Student soloists with the 'band this year were Almeta Lindley, Beverly Besancon, Dan Moody Whitaker, and Iohnnie Gilmer. Dale McCook is completing his third year as director of the band. Both the band and Mr. McCook express appreciation to the school and the school patrons for their cooperation these past three years. N11 1-in A ll f e :Y gl A97 .2 1 i . A constitution and by-laws were drawn up outlining purposes ot Band and suggesting procedure to accomplish those purposes. Self-imposed fines for infractions of these rules not only help to teach self-discipline, but provide funds tor picnics and probable Spring banquet. t Regular meetings each month offer a chance to practice this self-govern- ment and also provide a time and place for soloists and ensembles to play new numbers for the first time. The Band membership express appreciation to their officers and librarians, Almeta Lindley and Charlie Iarneson and their property manf Kenneth Mun- nerlyn for their leadership and throughout the year. ALMETA LINDLEY Secretary Treasurer if .9 AOPLZCA Girls Chorus was organized in September, 1943, with fifty girls enrolled. Twenty-four of this group were selected for State Regional Competitions which were held in May, 1944. The Chorus received an A rating and were judged the best chorus of the day. In September, 1944, fifty-five girls enrolled for chorus. At the end of the semester Mrs. Smythe selected thirty-six girls for contest work. This group of girls will represent Seminole High School in the Regional Contest. ln December, 1944, the chorus presented a contata, Carols of Christmas. They also furnished programs for the Lions Club, Rotarians, Womens Church Federation, and assembly pro- grams for the high school. The chorus was combined with the band in several benefit concerts. Seminole High School is indeed fortunate to have Mrs. Glenn Smythe as choral director and the girls chorus has proved a valuable addition to our school. ' I5 f x ll' ! ll! The Seminole Student Council was reorganized this year after an absence of four years. The Student Council was organized to give the student body the opportunity to express its will through representative practice and democratic procedure. Each home room has one representative and an alternate, elected each semester. The officers of the council are chosen by ballot of the entire student body. The council this year has attempted to control the hall traffic and the cafeteria line. lt has cooperated with the administration in an attempt to keep students from losing textbooks. The assembly programs have been found more successful after student council planning. Tentative plans for next year include fun niglrts and pamphlets for new students and freshmen. 3. .
