Kettles attended Rollins College in Vlvinter Park and received his BA. there. He was a Junior Class sponsor and taught both American History and World History. A newcomer to S. H. S. this year is Mr. Dave Laude. Nlr. Laude received his HS. from Stetson liniversity, While there, he played both football and basketball for three years. Also, he worked as assistant coach in track, baseball, and football. Now. at S.H.S.. Nlr. Laude is an assistant football coach. teaches Socialized Math and Civics. and is a Sophomore Class sponsor. While Nlrs. Wray's primary interest was her American History classes. she was always a willing worker as one of the Senior Class sponsors. This year she also served as president of the Seminole Mr. Laude, Johnny needs help with his math. STUDIES County Educational Association. Mrs. Wray at- tended the llniversity of North Carolina where she received her rnasteris degree. llr. Fleming served his second year as head foot- ball coaclr. While playing football for SHS. he won the Peter Schaal Trophy. He is a graduate of l .S.C. and after attending special classes at F.S.li. last summer. he was fully qualified to teach an intensive Drivers Training Prograin. lie was also a Senior Class sponsor. Teacliing Psychology this year along with his many other duties kept Nlr. Harris very busy. lle was County Auditor for all school activities and lunchroom funds as well as dispersing the county art supplies. He is a graduate of Richmond Kni- versity. Yvhal an studious psychology class, Mr. llarris. Berry and Al set up a ehemieal experiment MATH A Nlr. l.aycr is a graduate of Hanoyer College in Indiana and is at present working on his masters degree at Stetson liniyersity. He was an assistant basketball and baseball coach at Stetson and was assistant football coach here this year. He did a fme job as head basketball coach for S.H.S. Nlr. liayer also teaches Biology and one class of Physical Education. Nliss Riser was an energetic sponsor and worker for the Student Council. She was graduated from Newberry College and later received her masters degree from Stetson l'niy'ersity. She taught Algebra l and Algebra ll. Xlrs. Ifort was invaluable this year as dean of girls and assistant to the principal. She also taught Lynda and Jimmy seem to be interested in their Geometry. SEIE IIE two classes of chemistry and was financial advisor for the Sally. Nlrs. Fort received her ll.S. from l'i.S.l'. and later obtained a masters degree from Stetson Liniversity. ln 1911 Nlr. Dabbs began his teaching career after receiving his HA. from Western Kentucky State. Xlr. Uabbs taught Plane Geometry. Solid Geometry. Phy sics. and Algebra I. He was also a sponsor of the Projectionist Club and the Senior Class. Mr. Silvers. a graduate of Stetson Universityp did his interning here at S.H.S. last year and came back this year as a General Science teacher. Besides teaching school, he is the pastor of the Congregational Church in Sanford and holds a Doctor of Theology degree from Southern Divinity' School. Dr. Hoot taught Literature lll and Literature IV and was a sponsor of the Key Cluli. MI of the plays presented this year were under the direc- tion of Nlrs. Coleman. She taught Dramatics and Speech. Latin l and Latin ll. She was also sponsor of the Latin Cluh and Thespians, llrs. Coleman received her degree from F.S.L. and has done extensive work in Dramatics since then. :Ks one of the Junior Class sponsors. Nlr. Christensen was liusy' during the foothall season with the concession stand: he also was one of the Student Council sponsors. Nlr. Christensen is a graduate of the lf. of F. and taught Spanish l. Spanish ll. and Algebra l. Nlrs. Ryman. a former student and graduate of SHS.. received her BA. degree from Black Hills Teachers College in South Dakota. This year llrs. liyman returned to SHS. and taught Literature l and ll. She is a sponsor of lioth the Junior Class and the Future Teachers Cluh. Xlrs. Xlr. Ray' has done an outstanding joh as sponsor of tht- .lournalisni Club which has written the school news for the local paper. He taught Grammar III and IV. Nlr. Miss Rohn was also a sponsor of our cheerleaders and our Junior Class. She graduated from Stetson University with a BS. degree and has taught Physical Education here for two years. Under the direction of Miss Whit- tle, the Glee Club has presented many wonderful programs. Nliss Whittle at- tended F.S.U. and received a HM. there. She was a sponsor of the Stu- dent Council and has helped them with their numerous activities. Nlany wonderful books were found in the library. thanks to Nliss Chitten- den. Miss Chittenden is a co-sponsor of the Projectionist Club and received her RSF. from Florida Southern in Lakeland. Mr. Mathieux received his ISAF. from the University of Florida. He did a fine job as one of the Fresh- man Class sponsors. He also taught night classes for adults in ceramics. Nlr. Canas. our Athletic llirector. supervised the athletic programs for the school in addition to teaching Physical Education to the boys. ln the past. he coached football. track. and baseball at S.H.S. lVlr. Callas received his HS. from Murray State College in Kentucky and later rc- ceived an Nl..-X. degree from N. Y. liniversity. He was a Junior Class sponsor. As director of the S.H.S. Band. Mr. Cowley has done extremely well in making our band known throughout Florida. Mr. Cowley attended and received his B.M. from Stetson. Bobhv Lundquist. the mascot. added a lot of pep and enter- tainment for the students as well as the adults. Ev eryone enjoy ed the supper given for the Lees- nf S.H.5. hurg cheerleaders prior to the game which was held at the Ivey's home. The girls have worked well together under the able leadership of their captain. Dottie Nletts. and have done a wonderful joh of keeping the pep and enthusiasm evident in the school. F l li H T l N G , P.Ryrd SANFORD 7, COCOA 33 Nearly 3.0110 fans says' the Sanford Seminole's Hrst game of the 1956 season against the Cocoa Tigers. ln the first half, Cocoa rolled up 21 points. ln the second half. Johnson passed to Wil- liams in the end zone for the only' Seminole touchdoysn of the game. The extra point kick was made good hy Giles. SANFORD 6, APOPKA 7 The Apopka Blue Darters fought the Seminoles to a T to 0 vic- tory. Apopka dominated the entire first half and with less than a minute to play scored a touchdoyyn and then converted for the extra point. The Seminoles scored in the final quarter on a run through the center hy' Schirard. SANFORD 6. BOLLES .ACADEMY 6 The Seminoles showed a great deal of improvement in this game. Though hoth teams were hampered hy' rain during the second half. the Seminoles hattled the Cadets to a tie. The Bolles' score came early in the second quarter. The Sanfordites scored in the third quarter. but the extra point was wide hy' inches. The Seminoles threatened three more times, hut were unahle to score again R. Giles SANFORD 7. MELBOURNE 33 The Seminoles jumped to an early lead on a touchdown hy' S:-hirard and the extra point made good hy' Giles. The Bulldogs then started rolling and scored 20 points lvefore the half was over. ln the third quarter. the Seminoles again went on the war- T. Goembel path. but lost the ball on the Melbourne 17-yard line. SANFORD 0, WINTER PARK 20 The Wildcats, speed and deception demanded that the Semi- noles play' an almost entirely' defensive game. Sanford made their major threat during the second quarter when they' penetrated to the Wiriter Park 8-yard line. ' x x . t I if Q 3 S a 'Ni ff SEMINULES 'v SANFORD 21, NEW' SMYRNA BEACH 13 The Sanford Seminoles went on the warpath in New Smy rna and overcame a 13-point lead to scalp the Barracudas in a 2l to lfi upset. It was the first win of the season for the Seminoles. Byrd. Schirard and Johnson scored to break the losing jinx for Sanford. while the whole host of Seminole gridsters came to life to chill the New Smyrna offense. SANFORD 13, SEABREEZE 36 The Seabreeze Sanderabs had a homecoming heyday at the expense of Sanford. The Seminoles displayed brief offensive power in the second half as By rd and Wariier each scored touchdowns. but the Sandcrabs' attack was too oowerful and seemed to click in every department. SANFORD 14, LEESBURG 15 On the opening kickoff. Warner scampered 89 yards for a touchdown. Later in the game Goembel scored for the Seminoles' final score. The teams were evenly matched and it was one of the bardest fought games played this season by the Seminoles. SANFORD 6. DeLAND 12 Both teams were trying for their second win of the season. fanfordis ground attack was more successful than heretofore. but was not sufiicient to overcome thc Bulldogs. ln the last period. Byrd snagged a pass from Johnson which put the Seminoles in scoring position. SANFORD 7. LAKEVIEW' 0 The victory-minded Seminoles played a brilliant defensive game against Lakeview. fourth-place Conference team. David Stanley's blocked punt was converted into the only score of the game when Schirard recoy ered the ball and raced for the touchdown.
