You have certainly set a fine record. Our faculty is proud of you. Your spirit. loyalty and devotion to duty will long be re- membered at Seminole High. You have 34 class members who have maintained honor grades for four years. This is remarkable. You have added to the various clubs and activities all through high school and have just reason to be proud of your own record. W'e are interested in your future and wish for you the very best of everything. Nothing contributes more to the highest success than the formation of a habit of enjoying things. Whatever your calling in life may be, whatever misfortune or hardship may come to you, make up your mind resolutely that, come what may, you will get the most possible real enjoyment out of every day, that you will increase your capacity for en- joying life by trying to find the sunny side of every experience of the day. Resolutely determine that you will see the humorous side of things. The mirth-provoking faculty, even under trying circumstances, is worth more to a young man or woman starting out in life than a fortune without it. Make up your mind that you will be an optimist, that there shall be nothing of the pessi- mist about you, that you will carry your own sunshine wherever you go. There is wonderful medical effect in good cheer. Good news and glad tidings have a magical effect, even upon invalids. All ISTHATIU Graduation from high school is a big milestone in the lives of our American youth, and rightfully so. Twelve years of school training has brought endless trials and tribulations along with won- derful opportunities for self-expression and achievement. Though the quest for knowledge is often accompanied by heartache and disappoint- ment, the reward for perseverance is sweet and satisfying. The graduating class of 1956 is off to a good start and has reached the first big plateau. But greater things lie ahead, for education is a means to an end, rather than the end itself. In the years to come, problems will arise, responsibilities will weigh heavily, and decisions must be made. Dur- ing times such as these, your experiences at Semi- nole High School will prove to be of inestimable value. Your classmates and teachers are proud to have shared in your school endeavors. Their every wish for your success and happiness should serve as a reminder that Seminole High School will miss you. MR. A. J. BRACKEN, Assistant Principal TU THIC CQRAIJUATIQS OI-' 1956 I heartily congratulate you and rejoice with you in your yery worth-while achievement. I trust that thus far you haye laid solidly the foundation for your future happiness in life. As A we grow older, the search for happiness becomes A- 1 more complicated. XVe begin to look for things F outside ourselves. We get the idea that possessing expensive things, that spending lots of money for fun and entertainment is the way to happiness and contentment. XVe chase after happiness by staging elaborate parties, and going to many places of amusement. But happiness somehow eludes us. for false happiness is like false money, it may pass for awhile as being real. True happiness, then, is found best in serving othersg in losing one's self in a cause where loye of fellow man stands above all else. MR. R. T. MILWEE Cnnnly Superinlendenl Uffice Staff of Count Siiperintendent 6 The Superintcndt-nt's office staff performs a most invaluable service. Left to Rigbi: Mrs. E. E. Walker is respon- sible for the clerical duties and is Receptionist. Mrs. G. R. Gilbert is Finance officer for the county school board and is the Secretary to the Superintendent. Mr. W. A. NK If f l It hardly seems possible that in a few short days we will be walking down the aisle to the familiar strains of Pomp and Circumstancen and receive our diplomas. Has it really been four years since we entered Seminole High School as freshmen? Our freshman vear was full of fun and new experiences. XVhen we became sophomores we felt we had established a place in SHS. By the time we became uupperclassmenu we were well-prepared for the task of handling the many activities of our junior year. One of the most popular money-making projects was our class play Stagestruck. XY'e worked hard throughout the year and the Prom was most successful. The circus theme was cleverly carried out in the decorations and entertainment. As seniors we tried our best to be dignified. Our play was well-presented and it seemed that our last year was the best year of all. Now as the days slip quickly by, we look back over our four years in SHS with mixed emotions. Our class motto comes into mind: In ourselves the future liesf' and we move forward to face whatever the future may hold. 21 Left to Right: Mr. Harris, Miss Riser, Miss Stevens, Mr. Dabbs. We felt that our chief responsibility as Sophomores vias to sponsor a good r1t day xx hich proved to be one of the best-at least vue vxere proving our worthiness. Now we no longer had to look up to upper- classmen, but we were upperclassmen our- selves! Our activities as Juniors were many and varied. We all enjoyed helping at the concession stands, planning the football dances, presenting our play Father Knows Best, and last but not least preparing for one of the most successful junior-Senior Proms ever. The Seminoles were sparked by the fine play of Robert Samuel, jim Hawkins, jimmy Owen, Robert Carter, and Keith Abney. The fine spirit and skillful guidance that the boys received from Coach Layer was a big factor in the success of the team's play. lligh point honors went to Robert Samuel with 516 points for the season and 15.8 point average per game. Following Robert was Jim Owen with 149 points and an average of 8.3 points per game. Under Coach Bud Layer the boys were taught how to play a faster and surer game: the team also learned the Coach Bill Layer fundamentals of the fast break and running the other teams off their feet. Most of the success of the team should go to Coach Layer as he did a tremendous job of building a fine team, We should hear a lot about the Feds in a few years as there is more interest being taken in basketball than ever before. White, H. Hampton, A. Vorndran. A new school year begins at Seminole lligli with a new gym teacher coming to us from Stetson University. Through the year Nliss Rohn has given us many new ideas about all the different sports. Class captains were elected for the first time in many years. These girls were in charge of getting the classes in order and leading us through our daily exer- cises. Later in the year Miss Rohn appointed elass assistants who took full control of instructing various sports. The year was started with several weeks of dancing, including square. round, and social. Next on the schedule was volleyball, which was cli- maxed with a tournament with fourth period coming out victorious. A few girls from each gym class participated in the volleyball playday held in Apopka. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and had fun. Most of us enjoyed our two weeks work on the tram- poline, and some of us would have liked to have had more time to develop our skills. After many hours of needed practice and learning the new basketball rules, we proceeded with the tournament. l7ourth period won the championship in a hotly con- tested game. Archery and badminton started the second semester. The student assistants taught half the class the funda- mentals of badminton while Nliss Rohn taught the other group archery. CLASS ASSISTANTS SECOND SEMESTER Left to Right, First Rolf: K. Punch, N. Travasos, E. Hansen, B. Johnson, L. Smith. Second Rout L. Kanner, H. Hampton, J. Colburn, P. Rzms, W. Gilbert. After a few weeks of practice, we proceeded into soft- ball and lots of warm weather. The year came to a close in .1 hurry, and the girls on the winning teams received letters with the name of the sport and the year embossed on them. MISS BARBARA ROHN 4 5 -.
