Mc- Gill. Second row: T. Nelson, C. Buckner, H. Pale. Not until We are about to leave good old S.H.S. do we start to reminisce. These four years have passed very quickly for all of us and now, We are both happy and sad that the time for our de- parture has arrived. This means the end of our career in high school and also the end of many friendships, but then too, we are embarking on a new career, expanding our friendships and stepping out into the world on our own. As freshmen standing in awe of the upper class- men, we feared every sophomore until Hratw day was over. After our initiation we were more eager to enter into the school activities. Wherl our sophomore year came we had just one thing in mind-that was to give the new freshmen a Hhang up rat courtfwe really did a good job tool Then came our junior year and the honor of lmeing upperclassmen. We had a wonderful time selling cold drinks and 'dogsi at the football games and having those super dances after the game. Our play MBolts and Nutsw was a huge success4 thanks to our junior sponsors. Our prom for the seniors at the Mayfair Inn was a wonderful event and climaxed a perfect year. OFFICERS 1lAROLD PATE ......... DONALD HAMPTON . . . . TERRELLE JEAN NELSON . JACK McGILL ....,.. There were parties. the excitement of getting ready for graduation, and finally the hig night. That was when we realized we were leaving a happy and important part of our lives forever. Now we are looking ahead with great determina- tion to meet the things that lie in the future. ' SPONSORS L. 0 R.: Miss Riser, Mr. Harris, Miss Stevens, Mrs. Coleman. JUNIOR CLA OFFICERS L. to R., Isl Row: Maria, Mary, Dawn Ann. 2nd Row: Ernie, Eugene. Our first year in Seminole High is something we shall never forget. We felt pretty important until the first day of school, when we realized that we were mere freshmen. But after Hliat Dayffa we caught the school spirit and felt like entering in more school activities. The main objective of our sophomore year was to provide a good Rat Court. which was, of course. enjoyed hy all. Our class did a wonderful job dec- orating for the senior commencement exercises. At last we were Juniors! Now came our chance to prove our worth. Vile all had a wonderful time helping in the concessions. and planning football dances. We wanted to present a play that would he a big hit. This we did when we presented Stage Struckf' The event of the year was the Junior- Scnior party. It will linger long in the memories of all who at?ended as a never-to-he-frrrgotten night. Wie are looking forward to a lot of yyorlx. lun. and satisfaction in our senior year. and hope that it will he as prosperous as our unior year has lmeen. U If lf' I C E R S ERNIE MORRIS . EUSTIS 7 Hebounding from their loss to Apopka in the season's opener. the Seminoles rolled over Eustis in decisive fashion. Sanford's first touchdown was set up by Bass's timely re- covery of a Eustis fumble deep in Panther territory. Hawkins bucked over for the score. The second T.D. came as a result of a razzle dazzle play which ended in a 15 yard pass from Haw- kins to Maffett. The Seminoles' final score came when Pate intercepted a Eustis pass and galloped thirty yards into the end zone. Big Robert Newson booted the two sucessful con- versions. SANFORD 25 ........ LEESBURG 0 After a scoreless first quarter. the Seminoles opened up a drive which was sparked by Jones and Hawkins. Late in the second quarter after a series of runs and a pass from Jones to Shoemaker. the Seminoles made their first score. During the second half the Seminoles continued to retain possession of the ball for the major part of the game. Scoring on an unhindered ground assault and taking advantage of a Leesburg fumble. the Seminoles ran the score up to 25 to 0. SANFORD 12 ....... KEY WEST 52 Overpowered by a stronger and larger Key West team. the Seminoles suffered their worst defeat of the season. The Conches. with their high-geared offense displayed a brand of football that the boys could not cope with. Despite the loss. the team gained much experience which helped them in their remaining games. SANFORD 0 ...... .PALATKA 13 The Seminoles traveled 75 miles to Palatka where they were greeted by a big. strong. and powerful line and a group of fast moving backs. Although the Seminoles were very de- termined to win and put up a hard fight. it was to no avail. With the great playing on defense by Bass. Carter. Bates. and Davis. they held the Maroons to two touchdowns. SANFORD 0 ..... ST. VV INTER PARK 0 Our powerful Sanford running attack crushed the Wildcats, hopes for a win. With the outstanding play of the line. the Wildcats made only 72 rushing yards. The team was in top form and had control of the game all the way. ln the final quarter the Seminoles recovered a fumble and with the great driving power of Hawkins, Flowers, and Jones, covered 40 yards in seven plays. with Jones going the final 20 yards to score. His conversion again was good. SANFORD 21 ...... NEW SMYRNAO After a slow and scoreless first half. the Seminoles caught fire in the second half to smash out a victory over the Bar- racudas in our first Fast Florida Conference tilt. Displaying some fighting spirit, the team, led by Jones. Hawkins, Higgins. and Flowers. drove for 65 yards and a touchdown with Jones carrying the mail over and kicking the extra point. The Seminoles made their last advance in the fourth period when Newson recovered a Barracuda fumble which set up the last touchdown which was made on a pass from Jones to Haw- kins. SANFORD 14 ...... EDGEWATER 27 Although facing a superior team. the Seminoles were able to put across the first score of the game on a series of runs by Flowers. Hawkins, and Jones, plus a pass from Hawkins to Pate. With the ball then on the three-yard line. Jones went over for the score. At the half the score was 7-7. The Seminoles took the lead again in the second half, but relinquished it to the Eagles in the last quarter. Hard-fighting linemen were Smith. Bass, Bates, and Pate. SANFORD 6 ...... , .... DeLAND 6 Climaxing a gala homecoming celebration the Seminoles were hosts to the DeLand Bulldogs. The winner of this game was to be the winner of the southern division in the E. F. C. and would meet Ketterlinus of the northern division to decide the championship. Sanford's only score was set up when Flowers broke over the center of the line for a long run. .lones made the touchdown but his attempted conversion failed. After DeLand scored. the game was an exchange of punts. and loss of the hall on downs. with neither team heing ahle to break the deadlock. WT' THE BACKBONE of With the able help of our new teacher. Mrs. Doris Schautteet. the Girls, Physical Education classes got off to a good start. Mrs. Sehautteet taught a few new things this year such as dancing. and badminton. Dancing. tumbling. and those beloved exercises were taught during the first few weeks of school. Next we moved outdoors to have a little volleyball. For a week or more. we learned all the basic prin- ciples of the gameg then we had a few days of learn- ing the preliminaries. such as serving. setting-up the ball. and learning trick plays. Finally we began play- ing the various teams of our class period. The cham- pionship was decided in a hotly contested game which was won by the fifth period 6'BeBop Birds. After we had packed away the volleyballs and nets for next year. we dragged out the hasketballs and :ame back indoors. As in volleyball. we had a few days of learning.', Then we got into the heat and hurry of the contest among classes and the final playoff. Then softball equipment replaced the basketball- the outdoors replaced the indoors. Like all of the other sports we had taken part in thus far. we had some learning to do. We refreshed our memory on the things we already knew and learned many new techniques of tl1e game. Our classes were then divided into teams and the contest began. With the closing of the term in the near future. Vw t VFW? our SPORTS WORLD MRS. DORIS SCHAUTTEET we took our trusty bows and arrows and went out into the sunshine for a little archery. W'e also took along the equipment to play badminton. Then on class day came the reward for all our work and hard playing. All the players on the win- ning teams of the various sports were awarded ln-Ita-rs. These letters are a keepsakeetreasured by all. U I A1 fXbblb'l'ANTS Loft to Right: ll. Lindsey, B. Hulnphrey, H.
