They have devoted many hours of their time over many mat- ters concerning the welfare of the school. Selma High School is very fortunate to have such outstanding men working in their behalf. Through this, the 1949 Magnet, the student body and faculty wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to these men. 9 S7 The student council's first big job was handing out claims to gold miners, at Selma Memorial lfield, while the gold rush was on during football season. All organi- zations that applied brought back gold dust to meet their needs. The council also made it possible for some of the football boys to go to the annual 20-30 Club football banquet by sponsoring a student council dance. The poor weary prospectors on the council appreciate the cooperation of the student body and the community. Will the meeting please come to order was a familiar phrase to Kenneth DeVaney, Student Body President, every Tuesday noon at 12:20. Kenneth has shown great leader- ship ability in all student body affairs. Being Student Bodx President Kenneth automatically us a member of the Rotary Club and has regularly represent ed the high school at its meeting 'Vlembers of the senior class will remember Kenneth as a verv outstanding student and the students of Selma Hi will remember him as a very capable president f dent god Ghlcc 'zs posts Lavs rence Mendes Student Body Vice president has carried out the duties of this office very well Lawrence has been in charge of all of our very color ful pep assemblies this vear As Vice president Lawrence has been the chairman ofthe Ral ly Committee and has led in all the activities sponsored by it Throughout his high school days Lawrence has taken a lead mg part in school dramatics Loretta Dangaran better known as Peanut to er friends has made a very capable Student Body Secretary Since she has been regular in attendance at meetings accu rate in taking notes and has such a beautiful handwriting the rec ords of this years meetings are in very good shape Lorettas cooperation good nature and level head have helped greatly in getting student body business efficnentlv trans :cred This year Viola Routh was appointed Student Body Treasur er Viola has kept a neat set of books which has proved to be a great asset to this student body Viola has had to put in a lot of extra time of her own to keep the books in order At third period every day you could see her in the commercial room bus: ly working on the books that show the financial standing of the student body and all the re lated organizations U 11 Il ll
