They have devoted many hours of their time over many mat- ters concerning the welfare of the school. Selma High School is very fortunate to have such outstanding men working in their behalf. Through this, the 1949 Magnet, the student body and faculty wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to these men. 9 S7 The student council's first big job was handing out claims to gold miners, at Selma Memorial lfield, while the gold rush was on during football season. All organi- zations that applied brought back gold dust to meet their needs. The council also made it possible for some of the football boys to go to the annual 20-30 Club football banquet by sponsoring a student council dance. The poor weary prospectors on the council appreciate the cooperation of the student body and the community. This is what has made the whole year worthwhile and everything pan out all right. ouncil mana es fubenf god algfaifzs rw-ww-we-s,,. lV.i:liixg. Xl a 1 y Nt-iumxvi X1 XX.ixm' l'v-ters-in. The Class of 49 started out one September morning as typical Green Frosh. They survived the onslaught, however. The Sophomore year saw this same group re- turn ready for another great year. They displayed their talent by putting on a terrific Sophomore assembly. Anyone who wished to forget the athlet- ic prowess of the 49ers had to think again as the Sophomores placed stars in all fields and topped it off by winning the lnter-class track meet. They were hitting the top in scholarship also. Nineteen Forty Eight saw a junior class flare into action. After receiving their shiny new rings, they then proceeded to bring a touch of Ole Erin by presenting the Junior Play, Kitty Foyle. W'ith one hit to their credit they put on their second hit the assembly. The junior-Senior banquet was given in the Hotel Fresno and was enjoyed by all who were present. The forty-niners rolled up their sleeves and gave the Freshmen a proper initiation. The senior assembly hit with a bang as they featured the glory of the old West. On February 22, the Seniors loaded their to- boggans and headed for Big Stump on their annual snow party. In May a cloud of mystery hung over Selma as the Senior Play, The Leavenworth Case, was presented. The next big event was the junior-Senior banquet. Now with their diplomas in their hands, these 49ers', backed with four years of outstanding leadership in all sports, scholarship, and in all activities, leave Selma High to go on to new frontiers. This ab- sorbing play was full of thrills, suspense, and comedy. The usual thoughts of entrances, quick changes, and the million and one things which might go wrong flashed through the minds of the cast as the houselights dimmed. But with skill the cast gave a fine performance. eniofz plat' is 772lISf2'LlI illefz The entire action of the play took place in the library of the Leavenworth Mansion on upper Fifth Avenue, New York City. The success of the entire evening was due not only to the acting of the principal characters, but also to those who support- ed them so splendidly and to Miss Keay, director, and Kenneth DeVaney, student director, for their helpful guidance. The Leavenworth heiress and her cousin were played by Ei- leen Anderson and Phyllis Zeller. The butler, cook, and maids were played by Lawrence Mendes, Pat Wilkey', Delores Hammond and Margaret Torosian. The family secretary and lawyer were played by Bill Martin and Neil Chamberlain. Gerald Price and jean Self played the Police Inspector and assistant. Character parts were played by Montie Grogan, Lois Schmidt, and Peter Koopman. 62 fave o -.
