XVith this idea in mind, we have chosen as our theme, Let,s Remember for this, our 1945 edition of the Magnet. However, we would not want to turn back the pages of our annual alone, but are especially anxious this year to share it with those of our alumni who have been called by Uncle Sam. To our men and women in service, who are giving their best to uphold the principles of American democracy, we say Remember with us the good old days at Selma High. When home on furlough, or occasion W I scan through these pages of memories with us and recall u, too, strolled our halls, and were then the boys and girls i High. With the help and advice of Mr. Howden, Principal, and of Mr. Sims, Student Body Treasurer, the council was ready and willing to tackle the many small but important problems that arose during the course of the vear. The council was made up of our principal, Mr. Howden, the Student Body Officers, the editors and the business managers of the Clarion and of the Magnet, and the class presidents. A great deal of credit and glory should be given to the council members for doing such a grand job of leading our school in the many activities in which the school took part this year. The Board of Trustees has done an especially fine piece of work this year. XVe particularly ap- preciate the fine new cafeteria, made possible by the Board. As there was a tremendous need for some new school buses. the Board at the begin- ning of the school year purchased one shiny .is bus. which the students have greatly enjoyed. Next year a few more will be purchased. ln spite ol' many difficult problems con- fronting the Board, the five Board members have done everything possible to make this year pleasant for the students of Selma High. On behalf of the Student Body. the Nlagnet Staff would like to thank the Board for its interest and cooperation in all matters pertaining to our school. TRUSTEES X11 Xivisal Xkarnci. However, at tlie close of the season, it was found that they had lost two games. The Sanger game was played for the coveted championship of the Sequoia League. The fairly even score all through the game made it the most exciting game of the season. During the last two minutes Selma still expected to win, since the Bears were only .1 few vards from the goal line. ln spite of th: Bears, hard fighting, the game was lost. Coach Lewis Coles did a splendid job of coaching this season. The captain of the team was Paul Peterson, and the outstanding players were Vernal Amaro and George Sahagian. The scason's games were hard fought and exciting. Selma High was again living up to its old tradi- tion of a fine team. judging from the promising material, it is evident that the Bears should be next year's champions. Any girl who was willing to spend Ll few hours outside of school time could join this club. The games, this year, were played after school hours. The girls usually played for a stated time, and the one who was leading won the game. Tne G. A. A. had volleyball, basketball, speedball, baseball, and swimming contests, in addition to bicycle riding. Girls were awarded points according to the number of events in which they participated. Numerals, teddy bears, and letters were presented to the members when they reached a stated number of points. The three girls with the highest num- ber of points at the end of their junior year won the honor of wearing athletic sweaters. One other method of obtaining points was to hold an office in G. A. A. or to be captain of a team. The G. A. A. sponsored several parties during the year. On one of these occas- ions, the group was ably assisted by members of the Hi-Y.
