tribute The inauguration of a great man as President highlighted the Seniors'first year in high school. Then, during our last year, this same man's term of office and life was ended by an assassin's bullets. As the horrible details of this deed slowly drift to- gether in our minds, we are increasingly able to think prior to November 22, 1963. In tribute to our beloved late President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, we would like to briefly cite two of the major achievements of his administration. The fact that he is the author of the Peace Corps is in itself enough to call him great. To us as young people, it offers a chance to show the world that we are not the self-satisfied people the communists paint us to be. This has already played a major role in the betterment of conditions for all mankind and will very possibly be a large factor in the search for peace in the future. But, perhaps many will feel his greatest achievement was only two months be- fore «-he tragedy. Prior to this time, there was much testing of atomic weapons by the United States and the U.S. S. R. A treaty was proposed and signed by the United States, and then signed by the U.S.S. R. , Great Britain and many other nations. To preserve this treaty will protect us from the grave dangers of radioactive fallout and the treaty may well be a major step toward world peace. We think a fitting conclusion for this tribute to John Fitzgerald Kennedy, can be no better expressed than in quoting his own views of the importance of never ceasing to work for world peaces . .Peace is the necessary precondition for the advance of freedom.... 9
