Though this was a strange adventure for all of us, we weathered the storm under the competent direction of our principal O. A. Tuttle and our teachers Miss Irma Herring, Mrs. Percy Strickland, Miss Aletha Fant and Mrs. Raymond Woodall. Under the guidance of many different and wonderful captains, we sailed over boisterous seas for the next seven years to find that Land of Promise--High School. During the voyage the most tragic event was the loss of one of our dearest captains, O. A. Tuttle. He was replaced by E. C. Jernigan, who proved to be a qualified captain. This Land of Promise, discovered September 1951, proved to be the strangest and most exciting experience. All but a few of the original crew were with us to enjoy the stirring events of high school. At first we were very green and lived up to the pet name given to us by all the other students as green Freshmen. Under the sponsorship of Mr. Herbert Hipps, Miss Mildred Oliver and Miss Sarah Lewis, we elected the following officers: President, Bobby Carter; Secretary, Frederick Honrine; Treasurer, Golda Wright. After these officers were elected we soon became familiar with high school activities. To complete this successful year, a weiner roast was held at Holt Lake. Marshals for this year were: Bobby Carter and Minnie Lee Eason. The fall of 1952 we found ourselves living up the old title of Silly Sophomores. Being better acquainted with the activities and curriculum of high school and under the supervision of Miss Sarah Lewis and Miss Lora Jean Reeves a very prosperous year was anticipated. One of the most exciting events for some of us was having the honor of serving at the Junior-Senior Banquet. By popular vote the Junior Class elected Melba Warrick, Phyllis Price, Flora Ann Reeves, Margaret Minshew, Evelyn McKeel, Marilyn Grantham, Patsy Williams, Linda Stancil, Bobby Carter, Russell Newsome, Bobby Creech, Paul Creech, James Brown, Charles Lancaster, Bobby Corbett and Donald Creech. Of- ficers for this year were: President, Melba Warrick; Secretary, Paul Creech; Treasurer, Minnie Lee Eason. The marshals were Minnie Lee Eason, Bobby Carter and Donald Creech. The year's climax came when the class enjoyed a weiner roast at the Wilson Recreation Center. Feeling entirely familiar with the school proceedings and understanding our great responsibility as Juniors we entered school in the fall of 1953, this time under the com- petent direction of a new captain, Mr. Rex Mitchell. We were assigned to Mrs. Huldah Stephenson and Mr. William West, who succeeded in bringing us successfully through this hard but enjoyable year. Electing our officers early in the school year, we found that our leaders were: President, Paul Creech; Vice President, Bobby Carter; Secretary, Donald Creech; Treasurer, Minnie Lee Eason. Being aware that we had to raise suffi- cient funds for the Junior-Senior Banquet, we began almost immediately planning for that event. The class sold magazines, had cake sales and presented Peck's Bad Boy, after many weeks of practice and hard work. After counting our proceeds we found that we had been greatly repaid for all our work getting it up. The most enjoyable event of the year was the Junior-Senior Banquet given at the Country Club on April 19, 1954. In accordance with the springtime theme the club was beautifully decorated. By the many expressions of appreciation from the Seniors and faculty we found that we had again been successful and had presented the Seniors a banquet never to be forgotten. Our next thoughts were of exams and after exams looking forward to a vacation to rest minds after a very busy, but enjoyable year. Marshals for that year were Bobby Carter, Minnie Lee Eason, Lib Fail and Linda Stancil. When we returned to school in the fall of 1954 for the 12th and final year we found ourselves to be seniors. Not so dignified perhaps, but nevertheless seniors. We were all glad when we learned that Mr. and Mrs. William West were to be our sponsors because we knew that with such capable persons leading us, we were destined to make a success of this final year. From the first week we began to realize our importance as seniors, as we occupied the senior seats in the auditorium--a privilege to which we had looked forward since our first high school days. One of the most exciting days of this year was the day we received our class rings. We truly felt that we had really become seniors. We have had many mon- ey-making projects this year trying to raise sufficient funds preparatory to making our trip to Washington this spring. Picking cotton, tying tobacco, picking peas, selling mag- azines, Christmas cards, football and basketball pins, and cakes were a few of the many attempts to enlarge our bankroll. Officers who were chosen for this year were; President, Russell Newsome; Vice President, Paul Creech; Secretary, Melba Warrick; Treasurer, Minnie Lee Eason. All through our high school days we have had our share of heroes and heroines in the sports' world. Our class has also contributed much time and effort to the publication of the Yellow Jacket, the 1955 Annual, and the various organizations of the school. As this history is being recorded we are yet to present our Senior Play, attend our Junior-Senior Banquet, are looking forward to our trip to Washington, and receiving our diplomas. As we stand on the threshold of graduation, we recall many pleasant memories-- memories that we shall never forget. We feel that the experience gained by this voyage has made us better prepared for the journey ahead. Linda Stancil Raleigh, North Carolina June 9, 1965 Dear Mary, I've wanted to visit you ever since we graduated from college, but my work keeps me pretty busy. However, I rated a vacation last summer and I went touring over sections of North Carolina. Before I started, I decided to trade in my Model T. I was afraid to take a long trip in it. I went to the Used Car Lot and the owner was Billy Foster. You remember the talkative red head who was in our class at school. His partners have never forsaken him. They're still standing by. His workers Buck Hicks, Russell Newsome, and Morris Spicer. Charles Lancaster and Bill Ray Creech couldn't stand the thought of being left out so they accepted the job of bookkeeping. That explains why the banker, Mr. Billy Thompson, always has trouble with this firm's bank account. Well, as I was saying, I wanted to trade my car. Bill was always a good talker and it took no time for him to convince me to buy a new Olds. Since cars don't run without gas, I stopped at a nearby station run by Arthur Sellars and Robert Hatcher. I was starting to leave the station when a little imp backed his car into my new Olds. He jumped out and began to ask me questions. He wanted to know why I bumped into him. The imp of our high school class was playing pranks as he always did. I immediately sent for my lawyer, Billy Smith. We started to his office when James noticed someone he knew. It was Linda Stancil, editor of the Evening Sun. She invited us to visit the office. As we entered the office the secretary, Minnie Lee Eason, was busy talking to advertisers. Lib Fail was typing on the evening edition and Clarence Phillips was printing it. It was almost finished when Donald Creech, an assistant spilled the ink. No one seemed to mind because it was natural for him to do something wrong. He always did when he worked on the school paper. James and I never got to the lawyer's office, so we settled our dispute by ourselves. Then I decided to go to a movie. I glanced at the movie poster and saw Painful Love starring Flora Reaves and Bobby Corbett. Also a special feature with Elsie Ferrell and Barbara Nell Powell. I bought my ticket from Bobby Creech, ticket manager, and Don- ald Sullivan ushered me to my seat. Before I could sit down, I was knocked into the aisle by two little boys who were playing in the seats. Before I could catch my breath, someone was apologizing to me. It was Jean Smith and Frances Narron. Their children were having a good time like their mothers had done in high school times. We were interrupted by two glamor women and their husbands. We saw, (under the fine array of furs and jewels), Golda Wright and Annie Ruth Wall. We finally got settled to see the movie. I could hardly wait to see how my old classmates had progressed in the Movie world. The movie had started and everyone was contented with his seat and ready to enjoy the feature. Suddenly the film broke and it was impossible for the feature to play. As a substitute they ran an old film on the All-American football stars. Among the many players, I picked out several familiar faces. Paul Creech Jr. , Robert Carter, herman Vaughan, William Snipe and Kenneth Wright were some of the boys 1 remembered from the High School games. And then 1 noticed the manager and he was no other than James Brown. He certainly must have liked that job to make a career out of it. When the movie was over, I went backstage to see the Producer and other members of the cast. Wesley Pate was the Producer with Delores Stuckey and Barby Godwin as his assistants. (They always liked the movies anyway). Virginia Meece was the Art-Director and Rudine Saunders and Evelyn McKeel were the Make-Do-Editors. Ben Brantley was the manager of the theatre. I was really tired by this time so I went to my room. I had just lain down on my bed when I heard a crash in the street. I ran to the window and I saw a car that had run into a telephone pole. 1 noticed two nurses, Melba Warrick and Faye Vaughan rushing to the patient. At once I noticed the boy and it was Ersel Scott. He always tried to be a track racer even in High School. I rushed out to see if the patient was badly hurt. They took him to the hospital to fix up his scratches. I went to the hospital and the secretary, Marilyn Grantham, was banging away at the typewriter. I noticed three girls who were keeping books. They were Shirley Edwards, Elsie Sullivan and Helen Woodard. It took all three to keep them straight. As I was leaving the hospital, I met Joyce Jones and Shelby Jinnette who were coming home from work. I had been in the citv all day and I decided that I needed some country air. I was driving along when I saw two ladies arguing beside their cars. At once I noticed Margaret Minshew and Delores Lamm. It seemed that they had had a little accident. When I had finally stopped I noticed several other ladies; Betty Byrd, Elva Jones, and Rachel Hocutt. They were going home from a party. By this time Glenn Hatcher had arrived at the scene. He told us that he was manager of the near-by fruit farm. Some of his workers were Billy Ralph Creech, Albert Johnson, C. D. Langley, Billy Jones and Kermit Wiggins. It seemed that the ladies had finally come to an agreement. I noticed a car coming down the road and as it approached it stopped where we were. I immediately noticed Peg Woodall, the big businessman. He volunteered to call the wrecker when he went into town. Thus the problem was solved. By this time I was so tired, I decided to go to my hotel room and get some rest. I lay down and began arranging the things I'd done and seen during the day, through my mind. It had been an exciting day seeing all my classmates again. Immediately I fell asleep.
