And what would a school be without books? To our grandparents, school meant only reading, writing and 'rithmetic, but the opportunity has been given to the present generation to grow along many lines. We have always ap- preciated pictures, but it is only recently that the love and study of the best masterpieces in art have been emphasized in our schools. Through the endeavor of Mr. Jackson, art exhibits have been brought to Selma, and we have had the opportunity of seeing copies of the world's masterpieces right here at home. This is a privilege which few of us had enjoyed, and we realize its worth. Interest in the pictures was aroused, and with the proceeds from the exhibits some of the most popular pictures were bought. With these the walls of Selma High School have been bright- ened. They add a great deal to our school and produce an atmosphere of culture and refinement. The school seems to have taken on a more charm- ing personality from these pictures. The pictures have been selected from the different schools of painting, and though all are masterpieces their types vary widely. We see the light airy landscapes of Corot, the fiery action of the Horses of Achilles, the quiet beauty in the Madonnas and portraits, the serene majesty of the ships at sea as we pass from one room to another.
