Leila Mae Eakens C9w' qiadio Many things have happened at Selma High School which go to make this year one of the most progressive in its history. Among the outstand- ing events was the installation of a radio. The school officials had wanted for a long time to put a radio in the school, and this year, with the help of the Parent-Teacher's Association, their dream was realized. The radio that the committee selected for us has all the latest improvementsg the cabinet, too, is very attractive. Nearly every Friday morning we hear the Music Appreciation hour given by the New York Symphony Orchestra directed by Walter Dam- rosch. Many years ago the officials of the National Broadcasting Com- pany realized the need of musical education for the school children all over the country. These men knew that the best way to reach schools every- where was by the radio. Mr. Damrosch agreed to help in the broadcast- ing of these programs. They were begun last fall and have continued through the winter. Every week Mr. Damrosch tries to familiarize us with some type of music. Sometimes he illustrates fun in musicg again he will imitate animalsg and another day he gives some type of formal composition. Mr. Damrosch always adds to our enjoyment of the selec- tions by his careful explanations. NINIQI mm so ll 1 ff. 1 i'.
