1 Ill x ll mn gfistorgy of the Glass of '50 In the fall of 1918 the present Senior class first entered the halls of S. H. S. In the grammar schools we were introduced into the mysteries of the unholy Three -'readin', 'ritin', and 'rithmetic. We were borne through it all by the patience of our teachers and mothers Six years we toiled in sun and shower until finally we reached our Mecca Junior High! Here we were unceremoniously introduced into the Elements of Latin and Algebra, here we felt for the first time that powerful influence known as school spirit-a thing which was afterwards to hold a leading place in our hearts. For two laborious years we grew in body, mind, and soulg then the great day of our promotion arrived! S. H. S.! Will anyone ever forget that feeling of pride which surged through each breast during our first day at Selma High? Rats? Yes-A little timid? Yes! But these ob- stacles were soon overcome in the great struggle to add to our great com- mon interest-our school! Our class held a fine record in scholastic, dra- matic, and athletic activities. We showed great promise of some day becoming an honor to our Alma Mater. Our Junior year passed without any mishaps and we were prepared to play well our role as Seniors. Now that we have reached our goal-graduation-we can view with happy sat- isfaction our past years in S. H. S. As for the future, let each Senior wholeheartedly repeat: Build thee more stately mansions, O my soul, As the swift seasons roll! Leave thy low-vaulted past! Let each new temple, nobler than the last, Shut thee from heaven with a dome more vast, Till thou at length art free, Leaving thine outgrown shell by life's unresting sea. Elise Coth ran. They'll be working free for months, trying to pay for the dishes they broke. Not to speak of the hospital bill. Cyrus-I suppose Dr. Frank Thomas will be lenient with them about that, since they're such good friends. Thomas-I don't know. You never can tell about doctors and lawyers. Joe Green sho' did do us dirty. If he hadn't been the prosecuting at- torney, we never would have got convicted. Cyrus-Elise Cothran did her best for us, though.
