Many of the new players were from Junior High and without experience, but our prospects were bright since eleven lettermen were to return. As training progressed, the weak fell by the wayside and at the end of two weeks, the number had been cut to twenty-two men. The team was light, but made up for this with spirit, speed, and experience. After four weeks of daily workouts, We were ready for our first game. Everyone was anxious to see what our boys would do against real op- position. Before the game, we had a big parade on the down town streets. We then proceeded to the football field where we won a great victory over Isabella Vocational School. The next week we met stiffer competition, but won over Prattville in a close game. After dropping the next four games to Jackson, Planters- ville, Greenville and Centerville we were determined to make a strong finish uf the season, this we did. The next two weeks saw us win from the oldest rivals of S. H. S., Ramer and Demopolis. By winning the last two games we had an even break for the season. This was considerably better than we did in 1928. ' The entire team deserves much credit for the showing it has made against heavier teams. Selma High has always fought to the end, even though the odds have often been against us. The team was led by Captain Russell Rawls, the fastest man ever to perform for Selma High. Rusty has been a fine example of what a cap- tain should be. Rawls, with most of the lettermen, will graduate this year, but with many players who were ineligible this year and the good material from the Freshman class, our team for 1930 should be as good as the 1929 team. .Eine-Clip Rawls, Captain-Quarterback T, Buckalew-Guard Tepper-Fullback Ormond-Center Falkenberry-Halfback Williams-Guard Freeland-Halfback Bishop-End Welch-End Eastep-Guard H.
