In order, these teams were in the cap- able hands of Coaches Bud Islas, Gene Feerick and John Lawrey. All of these coaches have been great college players and know the art of imparting their skills to their pupils. With schools of comparable enrollment, we have been outstanding. With schools of six and some- times seven times our enrollment we have been tough competition. The highlight of our home season undoubtedly was the victory ov- er the Kingman Bulldogs one of the Class B Northâs finest quintets. We were victorious in both games with our friendly rival_Ashfork, twice over Camp Verde, and single victories over Payson Fredonia. Grand Canyon. We dropped a pair to both Cottonwood,Williams and Min- gus. The Junior Varsity ran up an impressive string of wins and this augurs well for our future teams as we had five freshmen on the fine squad. Coach Islas handled his men very well and knew the capabilities of each player. The starting five was usually composed of Dan Tap- ija,Dick Garcia,Ernie Martinez,Harvey Querta and Leon Smith. Right on their heels were Eddie Torres,Harold Clarke,Felix Martinez,Mike Cupell, Benny Honga and Lawrence Matuck. All these boys earned the playing time needed for a school letter. The J.V. team had Luke Tap- ija. Tiny Beecher, Dudley Manakaja,Ronald Susanyatame,Arnold Smith and Wilfred Walker as their leading players. The future is very bright for Antelope basket-ball and with the same fine coaching staff the boys will continue to develop. Ernie Mplsnn was out student manager. Snowflake for the Class B North title. Seligman won the Western title by defeating Williams Vikings in a well played game 4 to 3. Frank McCollum hit a long home run over the center field fence for the winning tally. Francis Vidrine pitched a fine game and was in control of the situation at all times retiring fifteen on strikes. Snowflake was met on the Winslow diamond and the Antel- opes lost no time in showing that they were true champions. They gave Brewer, star Lobo pitcher, his first defeat of the year.Har- old Clarke was the hitting star of the game. Dick Garcia made a great running catch in left field to end the game. At the state championships at Tucson the Antelopes lost a hard-luck game to the Wilcox Cowboys. Vidrine held Wilcnv to two hits and his mates out- hit their rivals, but a home rur causea defeat by a score of 3-2. THE BORDEN COMPANY H.M.Crotts,Dist.
