Mrs. Ruth Pettit, Mr. Glen Odman Superintendent Mr. E. L. Steinke, Superintendent of Schools, is now in his thirty-second year of teaching and administrative work. For fifteen of these years he has been at Se- lah, first as principal at Sunset School and for the past twelve years as superin- tendent. This year he will he able to see one of his goals materialized in the form of a new Junior High School. Mrs. Margaret Hale, secretary, also performs the duties as clerk of the board. Her many duties are carried out in an efficient and husinesslike manner. Principal Years of experience has given our high school principal, Mr. Glen Odman, an almost uncanny ability to see through alibis and excuses. Much of his experi- ence has been at Selah where he has served as class room teacher, guidance director, and in his present capacity. His office secretary, Mrs. Ruth Pettit, graduated from Selah High. Her back- ground and knowledge of the Selah School System has made it possible for her to give valuable assistance to stu- dents, teachers, and administrators. Mrs. Margaret Hale, Mr. E. L. Steinke

STEINKE, Superintendent Administration To expend wisely and efficiently a school district budget of 35518563 for equipment, supplies, instruction and transportation is only a part of the tasks of administration. Hiring staff mem- bers, arranging schedules, planning bus routes, providing classrooms, counseling students, and ar- ranging activities are others that keep the superintendent and principals busy. Much of their work must also be with the patrons in interpreting the school program and needs of the community. Thus leadership in curriculum planning with teachers and patrons becomes a vital role.

Board of Directors Members of the Board of Directors have given freely of their time and energy for the improvement of the Selah Schools. Mr. J. Ben Johnson is senior member of the board having served for the past fifteen years. Six of those years were in the capacity of chairman. Mr. James Fletcher was elected to the hoard in 1948. He has represented his district continuously since that time. Mrs. Dorothy Schlagel, East Selah housewife, was appointed to fill the un- expired term of Mr. Lloyd Dodd. The following year she was elected to a new term. Mr. Leon Olberg, Mr. Selwyn Justice Mr. James Fletcher, Mr. J. Ben Johnson, Mrs. Dorothy Schlagel. Mr. Olherg and Mr. Justice are pic- tured as they check for information in one of the office files. Mr. Olberg, only returning member of the board, has served for years. His experience will he a valuable asset to the new board. Mr. Selwyn Justice completed the term of Mr. Gilbert Peck and was twice elected to new terms. He, like the others, some- how found time to attend the many meet- ings required of school board directors.
