1? mr' l L. to R.. K. Hardan, M. Dickhans, M. Little, s. Groff, L. van wingerden, s. Hornby, V. Groff, E. O'Connor, Y. Pullar. . Robert Bruceg Advisor - The purpose of the Teacher-aide Program is an integral part of the curriculum and is an alternative to traditional education. The program is really sponsored by the S. A. E. fStudents active in Education3. The S. A. E. in turn is financially supported by the Bellingham Education Association which also awards a 3400 scholarship each year. Sehome's T. A. program is student administered fthis year singlehandedly by Sarah Mann, with that rare combination of sense of humor, sense of duty, and sensitivity to people3, with Mr. Bruce as the advisor. With continual evaluation and feedback, and a faculty steering committee the program has grown from 1 in 1968 to a range of 90-120 in 1975, depending onithe quarter. It is interesting but not surprising that students advocate upgrading and are critical of abuses of the program. Some of the veteran T.A. 's, with several quarters experience, achieve a high degree of poise and sophistication when involved in the learning process. One credit is awarded along with an appropriate letter grade, but there is much more satisfaction than a grade and credit. Especially those T. A. 's who have experienced an elementary or middle school experience. Among the more prominent satisfactions achieved are: 13 students get involved in some way in the educational process. 23 students learn more about learning. 33 The 'I'.A. sees the inner workings of classroom dynamics. 43 T. A. has the opportunity to see the complexity of the learning process, and the difficulties which arise. Sarah Manng Student Advisor 53 T. A. has the opportunity to bring creativity and fresh .ideas to the classroom. - 63 Most important perhaps is that the' program lets the T.A. get a mirror view of himself as a learner. -Sarah Mann Top row L. to R.: K.
