On Tuesday, the school was decked out for swinging with greased-back ha ir, ponytails, bobby socks, saddle shoes, and lots of red lip- stick. Our Homecoming game was against Ferndale, and on Thursday we had an Agricultural Day where many students showed up in overalls. On that same day, the Seniors held the tradi- tional slave sale. When Friday finally came, we had the Home- coming Assembly with class competition in skits and the naming of the royalty. At the game, to tie in with our theme, the royalty was chauffeured around the track in a. con- vertible '53 Chev. The class competition results were also ans nounced and the Juniors made a clean sweep of the spirit, skit and hall decorating competition. Good job '76! O'Connor, Y. Pullar. . Robert Bruceg Advisor - The purpose of the Teacher-aide Program is an integral part of the curriculum and is an alternative to traditional education. The program is really sponsored by the S. A. E. fStudents active in Education3. The S. A. E. in turn is financially supported by the Bellingham Education Association which also awards a 3400 scholarship each year. Sehome's T. A. program is student administered fthis year singlehandedly by Sarah Mann, with that rare combination of sense of humor, sense of duty, and sensitivity to people3, with Mr. Bruce as the advisor. With continual evaluation and feedback, and a faculty steering committee the program has grown from 1 in 1968 to a range of 90-120 in 1975, depending onithe quarter. It is interesting but not surprising that students advocate upgrading and are critical of abuses of the program. Some of the veteran T.A. 's, with several quarters experience, achieve a high degree of poise and sophistication when involved in the learning process. One credit is awarded along with an appropriate letter grade, but there is much more satisfaction than a grade and credit. Especially those T. A. 's who have experienced an elementary or middle school experience. Among the more prominent satisfactions achieved are: 13 students get involved in some way in the educational process. 23 students learn more about learning. 33 The 'I'.A. sees the inner workings of classroom dynamics. 43 T. A. has the opportunity to see the complexity of the learning process, and the difficulties which arise. Sarah Manng Student Advisor 53 T. A. has the opportunity to bring creativity and fresh .ideas to the classroom. - 63 Most important perhaps is that the' program lets the T.A. get a mirror view of himself as a learner. -Sarah Mann Top row L. to R.: K. Coach Isis? 1974 was a disappointment for the Mariners despite finishing with a, winning season. Injuries to Joe Pitalo, Jim Wisland, and Bob Bray early in the season derailed the Mariners from their second straight conference championship. After losing their first two conference games, the wa.ve came on strong to beat the next four teams consecutively. However, as the early losses eliminated us from the championship title, the Mariners had to settle for the city championship. 'We had a con- vincing 25-12 victory over the favored Bellingham Raiders before an overflow crowd at Civic Field. The Mariners were predominately a. Junior team last year, graduating only eight starters from both the defensive and offensive teams. Guard Mike Tow, Linebacker Dean Haskins and defensive halfback Lou Geri are three of the graduates. Five other graduating seniors that will also be missed will be the highly regarded Angelo LoGrande, all-conference selections Joe Pita.lo, Orie Barron, Murry Tweit, and Mike Gartner. A bright future is expected for next year with a super group of returners in the line Dale Jones, Skye Richendrfer, Alec Buchan, Tim Jernberg, Doyle Leavitt, Bob Ward, Steve Seholm, and Clif Mihm will all be ba.ck as seniors to make things frightening for the opposition. They will however, be challenged by this yea.r's very strong sopho- more line headed by the exciting running of Bob Bra.y and Lance Neubauer. The backfield will have many fine candidates in John Mumma, Tim Donnelly, Mike Sterling, Kerry Summers, Craig Huartson, Craig Forhan, and several others from the sophomore team. We regret to see our seniors go without the championship that they felt they deserved.
