It had a 7-4 re- cord overall and a 4-4 record in varsity play. Kelly Lease led the team in rushing with 525 yards and Mike Haines was the leading receiver with 178 yards. The Blackhawks scored 276 points which was a season record. Matt Doucett and Shawn Holmes were the standouts on defense. Probably the best game of the season was against Charlo. Charlo had never been beaten by the Blackhawks and it looked like the hex would continue as Charlo led 28-8 by the middle of the second Quarter. Then Mike Haines caught a touchdown pass to close the gap to 28-16 at halftime. The second half showed that the Blackhawks had fighting spirit. The running of Mitch Baretta and the abusive defense led by Matt Doucett soon gave the Black- hawks a 38-28 lead. The Vikings tried to come back but it was too little too late and Seeley Swan ended the game with a 38-34 vic- tory. The Falcons defeated St Regis at the charity line where they connected on 22 of 24 free throw shots for a re- markable 92 percent St Regis, however, completed just 12 of 23 free throw attempts, for 52 percent. We were unbelievable from the free throw line, said Florence coach Dick Gilder We won on the same thing that beat us Thursday night — free throws. The team was consistently in the competition but fell short of accomplishing its goals. For example: the team finished with a ten win, one loss dual record but on the last dual had its winning streak ended at 39, having been undefeat- ed the year before. In tournament competi- tion the Blackhawks had its “place in the sun. At the Kalispell Invitational Mark Cahoon and Manuel Kester- son took firsts. At the CMR Holiday Tournament, Soph- omore Wade Hallam took the 98 lb class and Mark Ca- hoon took second at heavyweight. At the Rocky Mountain Classic Mark won the championship while Wade took second after a close match. When Division- als came around Seeley- Swan was ready but only able to muster a third place finish. The loss ot two close semi- final matches prevented the Blackhawks from winning the Western Division, how- ever five wrestlers did quali- fy for state. They were: Mark Cahoon, Manuel Kesterson, Wade Hallam, Kelly Lease, and Chris Rammell. At State, Mark Cahoon won the championship at heavyweight while is friend Manual Kesterson finished second in the 185 lb. class. The Blackhawks finished the season with a respectable 10th place finish. 29 Becky Olson, Chn lungers, Marvit Door, Eddy lungers, Jeff Farra, Brett Haines, Knut Hoelstad, and John Baretta.
