MUSIC STUDENTS RATE HIGH AT DISTRICT STATE The Music Department had a very productive and busy year. It started with twenty-five band members who struggled to play well at football games as well as girl's basketball games. The chorus of about eighteen voices with over half freshmen were stretching their vocal cords with hopes of singing well for the Christmas Concert. The Christmas Concert past with a good feeling of a job well done. The Boys basketball and wrestling season had the pep band hopping to play often and when the pep band season was finally over, we had played for thirty-two games. Our next concert was our Spring Concert and all the soloists and ensembles for the District Music Festival performed. The twenty-five piece band, which didn't grow much in size but definitely in quality received a II (Excellent rating) for an overall rating at the District Music Festival and a I (Superior) rating for sight reading. The Chorus re- ceived an overall rating of I. The small ensembles and soloists did well at the Dis- trict Festival. We received one III (Good rating), five II's (Excellent ratings) and five I's (Superior ratings). The triple-trio of nine girls sang Let There Be Music at the State Music Festival and recieved a I rating; also Lesley Pagett played a piano solo, Bagetelle No. 1 and received a I rating at State. Our final concert, a Pop Concert which involves pop- ular music, ended the year with beautiful sounds that showed the progress of and musicianship of all the S.S.H.S. musicians.
