Ziech 1971-1972 This year, the Seeley-Swan Girl's Basketball team played several games with new teams. On the whole it was a fairly successful year with greater skills and knowledge being learned. We participated in the Ronan Tournament again, but didn t place. Team members included seniors: Annette Bertelsen, Nicki McPhee, Lois Seaman, Judy Trickey, and Cherri Smith; juniors: Naomi Vannoy, and Janet Matthew; sopho- mores: Cindy Ziech, Stefani McPhee, and Cindy Nagy; freshmen: Cindy Ogden, Kathy Wilhelm, and Laura Cahoon. ... Next year we are looking forward to the interscholastic competition in girl s basketball and a participating trip to State in Miles City. Our team will be relatively young, but on the whole, experienced. Our B squad and Freshmen teams enjoyed playing some games during the year. The games made practice worthwhile. State Championship for the second year. Both Barry Johnson and Dave Tompkins placed fourth at the state meet. This gave us seventh place at State after taking third place at Divisional. Our team record for the year was 9 wins and 7 losses. Wrestling is a tough grueling sport. In this day of Do as little as Possible There are not many boys who have the stuff to stick it out. Robert Holmes was the spark plug for the team, and did very well in all competition. Sandy Hultman also ran well, as did Lee Skaw, Barry Johnson, and Joe Hals. Kirk Mace was forced to divide his time between football and cross country, but did manage to run in two meets. Gar Holmes was the only Freshman running, but he did well in his class, and he will form the nucleus of up- coming teams two vears from now. With Robert Holmes, Sandy Hultman, Barry Johnson, and Kirk Mace graduating, we will have our work cut out for us next year. Meets were held at Seeley (2), Poison, Missoula, and Kalispell, with the State meet at Great Falls. LEFT TO RIGHT, STANDING: R. Holmes, J. Hals, K. Mace, Coach; B. Johnson, S. Hultman, G. Holmes, L. Our team, consist- ing of Judy Trickey, captain, Terry Engdahl, Melody Anderson, Mary Hultman, Stefani McPhee, Cindy Ogden, and Laura Cahoon placed 4th. Hultman, M. Anderson, J. Meyer Sponsor: DAN'S FOOD MARKET Dan G Daisy Cainan The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks in 1972 experienced a year of building in Track. Senior distance runner Robert Holmes and Junior shot-putter Steve Curtiss were very dependable point-getters, but the bulk of the team was made up of freshmen and sophomores who could not match the depth and experience of the other teams in the conference. In spite of this we still were not the worst team in the conference as we ended up fourth in the district and seventh in the division. ........... . . , . There were twenty boys who lettered in Track. Of these, ten qualified for the divisional track meet. Robert Holmes, Scott Hart, Steve Curtiss. Jim Busch, Mike Murphy Bruce Callahan, Joe Hals, Dan Hamilton, Keith Kratrer, and Kirk Mace. We had five boys qualify for state from Divisional: Robert Holmes, Scott Hart, Steve Curtiss. Jim Busch, and Bruce Callahan. . _ _ ... . . , . Sophomore hurdler-sprinter Scott Hart was the leading scorer for this year with 50 points, followed closely by Captain Robert Holmes with 43 points. Sophomore track men led the team with 832 points, followed by the Seniors with 77, Freshmen with 24j, and Juniors with 22. The team was seriously weakened by having only one Junior out for Track. Ogden This was Seeley-Swans year to take State in Girls Track. With a seasoned upper class group and a good group of underclass girls the Blackhawks took the District 7B for the third straight year, the Western Division B the second year in a row, and when it looked as though we had State wrapped up disaster struck and we ended up with third. Judy Trickey was the first high school girl to run the 440 in 60 sec- onds, which is still a Class B State record. Mary Hultman currently holds the State B record in the 100 Yd. Dash (11.2) and the 220 Yd. Dash (26. 0). Everyone worked very hard and this was the finest girls track team we have put together so far. We should be proud of them. Our first official performance was for P.T.O.) along with the entire Girl's Chorus of S.-S.H.S. The Christmas concert combined the band, chorus, and newly formed community chorus for an exciting program of the season's best music. Winter found the group singing at the district basketball tournament in Hamilton. After the tournament preparation began for the district and state music festivals. Three girls, Barbara Copenhaver, Susan Mecham, and Nicki McPhee, were chosen to participate in All-State Chorus in Missoula. The district music festival was held in Hamilton where Pagett and Company re- peated last year's performance by receiving a superior rating and a chance to go to state. Also our quartet, Barbara Copenhaver, Dione Kendall, Susan Mecham, and Debbie Foley received a superior rating. Once again at the state meet, the girls recieved a superior rating for their outstanding performance and another black letter. Spring found the group per- forming for the annual style show graduation, and Baccalaureate. We will surely miss all the seniors from our group next year.
