AS IT HAPPENED Our freshman year was one to remember. Each of us was filled with anxiety and anticipation for what lie ahead. The anxiety and fear could be seen in our faces ag we ‘attempte | re find our way to classes. We could not, yeliéve the freedom that was granted to’ us. We didn’ t have to walk single file to lunch. and we could a wherever we wanted. of | Our class was not given any special treatment because we were youne aed if a EW school. We were warned at the beginning of the year by Mr. Dias about the 5% who never grew up and always seemed to get into trouble. Quickly becoming aware of our privileges, we soon fit in with the rest of the crowd. We were young but we caught on fast — discovering that elevator passes weren’t redeemable and that it didn’t matter if we went up the down staircase. We learned that we had the potential to achieve great things, and we were inspired to become involved in Spirit Week.-Tim Bessett led us to a near victory — coming | in a close second to the sophomores. We were ‘simply saving our energy for the next: year. It was a year of growing An change. iene were pleasant, memories and there was dis- sapointing ones as we found out that all under- classmen had to take'final exams. We had to think positively for this experience would help us in our future. The seeds were planted and here we would grow. Our sophomore year had arrived and we were still the same individuals but we had matured. We were not as naive as the freshmen class and wanted our share of the fun and of life. We in- cluded ourselves in morning food fights in the large cafeteria and thousands. of elevator passes were on hand for thémeonma ng freshmen. fit the bill. Despite.the lack 0 thusiasm, our class still tied the seniors-for third place. The grand finale to the Homecoming rally was the first pub- lic appearance by the new cheerleading squad. Seekonk High’s finest was featured except that there was one catch — the squad consisted of all males. In the midst of all this excitement, Gina Ferri became Lisa Fortin’s successor to the throne. We had shown that we were catching on to Seekonk High’s routine and we were given more responsibility. Driver’s Ed. was one of these. This class featured all the excitement one could handle for a day. We saw people with virtually no brains get behind a wheel and drive. . Gag me with a spoon, fur surr! That one phrase comes to mind in reflecting on our junior year. Our spirit as a class.had diminished and our new title as jolly upperclassmen hardly fit us. Seniority had gone:to our heads and we were no longer the rowdy freshman class. The reality that we had a lot of work to accom- plish became apparent after receiving our PSAT scores. Those vocabulary words were quite amusing and all you could do was laugh — or cry. Imagine all that hard work just to prepare for the SAT’s! Despite the hard work, one could look forward to Spirit Week and Hopigpoming. Even then we did not show our enthusiasm as ee ass Although we lacked. popularity as a class, we again managed to tie for third place in the Spirit Week competition. Well it was a lot better than last place! We could not let our advisors down again. The prospect of losing our junior prom had made us work a little harder in the Spirit Week competition. It was worth it however, the junior prom was a memorable night. During the remainder of the year many changes came about. Computers invaded the minds of students, a visiting SNe fron Swetlen attended classes and we bluffed our Ewa thro more final exams. | Sw ms : With the start of our atin ro came a rotat- ing schedule as well as SAT’s again. However, there were some changes — Miss Walek became Mrs. Armbrust and Pat-Hartnett became class president. | 5, Senioritis had set in by. the ‘second’ month of school. We wanted to-get our‘lives going but we did not know in which direction to go. The outside world was closing in fast, college applications had to be filled out along with financial aid forms. We weren't little kids anymore and we had to ac- knowledge these responsibilities and accept the challenge. As wallet-size photos were distributed among friends, we could see that we had matured. This reminded us that it. wSildicbe our last year together. We had left our mark in Seekonk High School’s history. We thought it funny that fresh- men were supposed to respect our judgements. We, ourselves, didn’t even ‘know where we were going — how could we give advice to the fresh- men? Well, we enjoyed the seniority although we lied about it a little — the senior year is not as much fun as the underclassmen think. There are a lot of fun times, though, such as the senior sup- per, yearbook distribution day, class night, and the senior prom. However, there are some dis- appointing times such as re ing rejection notices from eltsess and saying good. bye to friends. But all-in-all, the senior year was full of events that will be forever fixed in our minds.
