DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN? by Genevieve Turcotte 1979-1980 The Freshman year was one of excitement, anticipa- tion, anxiety, and fear. Com- ing from a basically strict en- vironment, the students ofthe class of ’85 could not believe all the freedom given to them. We did not have to walk single file to lunch, we could chew gum, and we could sit wher- ever we wanted, even with a choice of what “delicacies” to digest (?). Maybe the food fight was started because of the “bouncing brownies”! The true facts are classified as top i oy . secret! Although we were quite aware of the privileges of being in high school, the re- strictions seemed a bit vague. AWOL, what’s awol? We were just taking a healthy walk through the courtyard! Regardless of the initial confusion, the class of ’85 soon fit in with the rest of the crowd. When Spirit Week came around, we sowed them “our sturi wis brought us second piace Nevertheless, our jumping and screaming was put to good use at the football game, for we actually won. Boy, that was a long time ago! Because of the spun shown at the rallies, the class of ’83 was forced to direct its energies towards selling white boxes full of Christin “goodies.’’ One student, perhaps fed up with being accosted by the freshmen salespersons, decided to take out his frustrations on an administrative official: rl yer woe if y However, it was an “isolated incident” and the school soon recovered from the crisis. Of all the pleasant memo- ries of the freshman year, that which will be treasured the most was that we did not have to take final exams if we had an average of 85 or above. Those were the good “ole” days!
