Co-captains Joan Crowley and Laurie Sloane spearheaded this effort with Sloane scoring a team high 25 goals and Crowley contrib- uting well defensively. Lisa Gre- goire, Seekonk’s netminder, posted a tremendous season also. Chosen for the League All-Star = Team were Joan Crowley, Laurie Sloane, and Missy McAloon. Coach Sue Kaveny gives the credit all to the girls. “Their dedication and enthusiasm brought very posi- tive results,” says Miss Kaveny. The outlook for next season is also very bright. The teams’ most heartbreaking loss was to Attleboro, 41-17, but they came back in the class meet and showed they were formidable opponents and a team to be reck- oned with in the future. The girls were led to their unde- feated season by juniors Kris Gib- lin and Ann Harrison; sophomores Kara Mullen, Sandra Sincero and Kathy Drapeau; and Jennifer Gib- lin, an outstanding freshman, who all were elected to the Coaches’ All-Star team. The girls finished first in the Seek- onk Invitational Meet and the boys took first in the Massachusetts State Class Meets. Leading the way for the boys were Gary Crowley and Brian Giblin, who were elected to the S.E. Mass. Division II All-League Team. The season was a success this year and next year the squad hopes to win their division title. With the return of many talented under- classmen, this goal is within reach. For the first time in Seekonk’s history, the Girls’ Varsity Swim Team defeated Attle- boro in their dual meet by a score of 42-41. Coming down to the last event, Seekonk won the 400 Freestyle relay to obtain the win. The squad’s most disappointing loss came against Dover-Sherborn (40-43) but under the direction of Coach Eileen Gran- ger, the team pulled together to gain sole possession of second place in their league. This year’s squad, headed by Cindy Paine and Terri Troino, was 100% better than last year’s team. Paine received the Most Valuable Player award due to her team lead- ership and playing ability. Both Paine and Troino are seniors. The team showed its full potential in a home match against the tough and talented Case squad. After los- ing the first game they defeated Case 15-8 in the second game before finally succumbing in the third game. Freshman Mary Hendricks led the J.V. team to a 10-4 record giving Pearce hope for the future. (1) Smile, you’re on Candid Camera. Seekonk not only downed Feehan in their first encounter but hustled for eleven straight victories versus one defeat in S.E. Mass. Division II Conference play. Their 11-1-0 record earned them their third straight conference championship. Among the honors tallied by the Warriors include five players being selected to the All Conference Team, including Kevin Rodrigues, Dan Lareau, Captain Paul Given, Mike Blanchard and goaltender John Chin. Division IV Conference. Senior Co-Captains Paul Beaure- gard and Rick Murphy provided team leadership while senior Joe Reddingto n and sophomores Mike Murphy and Jim Borah supplied the scoring punch. The Warriors’ first victory, a 54-52 overtime decision over Westport, showed the potential of the team. “The players did not give up; they stayed together and played tough defense,” remarked Coach Heroux. This victory followed the team’s most disappointing loss to Bourne on January 6, 1981. The Warriors came back, however, to upset Bourne in their next meeting. The Junior Varsity team posted a 4-14 record this year, an improve- ment from the previous year’s 2-16 record. Pointguard Lenny Silva and guard Paul Buckley paced the team to many of their victories, with help from the bench coming from center, Mark Bowers; guard, Brian Nyzio; and pointguard Dave Fecteau. Coach Ed Dalton is satis- fied with his season because “We beat a lot of teams that beat us badly the first time around.” Returning veterans Mick Murphy, Jim Borah, Bob Kinsley, Don Tay- lor, Mike Slattery, and Scott Mor- rison, combined with the promis- ing J-V team and the Freshmen team that posted a 15-1 record, will form the nucleus of next year’s club. Winter Sports 91 No-Playoff Season Due to the inexperience of the varsity squad this year, the Girls’ Basketball team missed the State playoffs for the first time in seven years. With only two returning varsity players, this year was a rebuilding year for the girls’ hoop team. Winning only three of their eighteen games, the girls displayed a strong defense but had little confidence in their shooting. They never quit and steadily improved with each game. The most disappointing loss came late in the season in a game against D-R. With only sec- onds left in the game, the Warriorettes missed a final shot attempt which bounced off the rim handing over the game to the rivals, 43- 41. With Jodi Devine being the only graduating senior, Coach Memezes can look forward to the return of Sue MacKenzie, Stacey Hess and a strong Freshmen team including Mary Hendricks, Tish Walsh, Sue Shepherd and Kim Pellerin. With easy victories over the nine teams in the conference, Ellis Mayers led his team to its sixth consecutive Greater Boston Con- ference Championship and an overall 10-0 dual meet record. The Warriors also placed second in the Mass. State meet, and while win- ning five out of eleven events at the New England Championships, only placed third. Possibly the high point of the sea- son was the medley relays time of 1.38.066, which qualified for All- American consideration. Swim- ming in the relay were Seniors Brian Dolan, Chip Swanson, John Ackell, and Junior Jack Ellis. Also achieving a time of All-American consideration was Chip Swanson in the 100 Breaststroke. For the third consecutive year the Boston Globe has selected the medley relay of Chip Swanson in the breaststroke, and John Ackell in the 200 Freestyle to the Boston Globe All-Scholastic Swimming Team. The varsity record board was re- written with Brian Dolan’s record in the backstroke, Chip Swanson’s in the breaststroke, and John Ackell’s in all the freestyle events. The success of the season was also due to the valuable contributions from seniors Paul Lanoue and Andy Gordon; juniors Marc Dool- ittle, Kevin Oliver, Steven Kamio- nek, Brian George; and an improv- ing group of sophomores and fresh- men. Winter Sports 97 81 Seniors Pull Through The Seekonk High School Baseball team’s excellent finish this season was due mainly to the fine performances of the graduating seniors (the class of ’81). Coach Thomas Ridolfi feels that hard work was a significant part of the successful sea- son. °80 Seniors Rick Souza, who made all- league three years in a row, and Stephen Burke were excellent hitters and “on the ball” for defense. I began the job of editor-in-chief with a little apprehension, excitement and having many ideas for Reflections 1981. I can say quite proudly that most of the ideas were attainable and are in this book. = Several people have helped me on this yearbook and I _ would like to express my appreciation to all of them for the time and effort they put into Reflections 1981. They made my job much easier and filled it with many experiences that won’t be forgotten. Everyone who worked on Reflections ’81 hoped that we could capture those special moments during the school year that we shared with you and as a result of this book, these experiences will have a deeper meaning for you. This was our primary aim in compiling our yearbook — to make it a book of reflections and to provide a book of memories for the years to come. The 1981 Reflections Staff would like to thank the pollowiug people for their guidance aud suppor cu helping our yearbook to become a success. Wr.
