eekonk High School eekonk, Massachusetts Class of 1977 Now the things that I remember seem so distant, so small, though it hasn't really been Seekonk Public Library 410 Newman Ave Seekonk MA 02777 that long a time — Introduction Dedication Administration and Faculty Seniors Underclassmen Activities Sports Advertising JEW 174 Time it was and what a time it was it Was A time of innocence A tume of confidence Long ago it must have been I have a photograph Preserve your memories They're all that ts left to you. Simon and Garfunkel Now that we've finished our time together, And in this time We have changed, and so have you. For we cannot return to them. We can only look behind from where we came With thoughts of memories always to hold. ois? PUTA te Maybe it was the privilege of our youth, But we felt no limits and saw no where an end. And the best is yet to come This ts only the beginning And we've only just begun To realize the best is yet to come. Mr. Frank Mooney has long been one of Seekonk High School’s most outstanding teachers. What he has done for the students will always be remembered. This dedication is a small token of appreciation for what Mr. Mooney has meant to the class of 1977. To us, he has been an outstanding coach of cross-country and indoor and outdoor track. For four years he has given us the Student Government Day and Student Government Exchange Programs with no compensation other than the fulfillment of his interest in the students. Mr. Mooney has been the co-advisor to the Student Rap group and has participated in Problem solving teams, as well as being active in many other school activities, community and church affairs. The remarkable thing is that Mr. Mooney, who has been so active, has always had time for the problems of every student, no matter how large or small those difficulties may have been. Perhaps that ability to find time for everyone is the quality that makes him so special. And so, THE CLASS OF 1977 WOULD LIKE TO DEDICATE THIS BOOK TO MR. FRANK MOONEY Thank- You Children Live What They Learn If a child lives with criticism, He learns to condemn. If a child lives with security, He learns to have faith. If a child lives with hostility, He learns to fight. If a child lives with fairness, He learns justice. If a child lives with ridicule, He learns to be shy. If a child lives with praise, He learns to appreciate. If a child lives with shame, He learns to feel guilty. If a child lives with encouragement, He learns confidence. If a child lives with tolerance, He learns to be patient. - [fachild lwes with approval, He learns to like himself. Tf a child lives with acceptance and friendship, He learns to find love in the world. 10 Administration Peter Andreozzi Vice-Principal Richard Dias Principal ai Robert Mattis Dean of Students Can you hear? and Nancy Allen Home Economics Edward A. Miranda 23 Desiderata Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and dearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. _ Be yourself, especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love: for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. - Take kindly the course of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield yourself in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe ts unfolding... . as it should. Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be, and . . Ss . . . . whatever your labors and apprehensions; in the noisy confusion of life, keep at peace with your soul. ° With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. MAX EHRMANN : © 1927 by Max Ehrmann _ All rights reserved. Copyright renewed 1954 by Bertha K. Ehrmann Reprinted by permission Robert L. And all the secrets in the universe Whisper in our ears and all the years will come and go | And take us up always up. We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again. Dreams — so they say Are for the fools and they let them drift away. Peace — like the silent dove Should be flyin’ but it’s only just begun. Like Columbus in the olden days We must gather all our courage. 118 Sail our ships out on the open sea Cast away our fears and all the years will come and go And take us up — always up. We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again. So [wanna laugh while the laughin’ is easy I wanna cry if it makes it worthwhile. I may never pass this way again That’s why I want it with you ‘Cause you make me feel like I’m more than a friend Like I’m the journey and you re the Journey's end. Seals and Crofts 119 eae mn aaemaaat an a Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life? Well I've been afraid of changing ‘Cause P've built my life around you, But time makes you bolder. Even children get older And I'm getting older too Oh, take my love, take it down Climb a mountain and turn around And if you see my reflection In the snow covered hills Well the landslide will bring it down Oh! Oh! the landslide will bring it down. Fleetwood Mac 125 i : Y H rd } | i ; ee oe 4 The surging water reflects the uncertainty of the present and the expectations of our future. 128 Yesterday a child came out to wonder Caught a dragonfly inside a jar Fearful when the sky was full of thunder And tearful at the falling of a star Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now Cartwheels turn to carwheels thru the town And they tell him, Take your time, it won’t be long now Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down TOLLE —_ 8 SS Then the child moved ten times round the seasons Skated over ten clear frozen streams Words like, when you’re older, must appease him And promises of someday make his dreams Sv So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true There'll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty Before the last revolving year is through And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We’re captive on the carousel of time We can’t return we can only look behind From where we came And go round and round In the circle game. Joni Mitchell 129 Not to the swift, the race: Not to the strong, the fight: Not to the righteous, perfect grace: Not to the wise, the light. We could not have hoped for a more dedicated and efficient person to work with. On behalf of the entire Senior Class of 1977, the yearbook staff would like to acknowledge the efforts and guidance of our class advisors. We hope that Mr. Walton and Mr. Callahan have enjoyed the last four years as much as we have. Special Recognition The outstanding work of Mr. Herman Toro is not fully realized by the Seekonk High School community. It is hoped that this special recognition of one of our most dedicated faculty members will cause us to pause and consider the value of our music program. Let us realize Mr. Toro’s accomplishment is furnishing Seekonk with a fine concert band, marching band, stage band, pep band, and girl’s chorus. Let us also realize the value of the representation that Seekonk High School receives from the performances of the concert band and girl’s chorus, and from the astonishingly high number of Seekonk students that successfully audition for positions in the Southeastern Massachussetts District Band and the All-State Band. We must not only realize these accomplishments, but we must not forget them. — The Editor The yearbook would like to acknowledge the following contributors of published material: Sue Morin: Artwork, page 129 Photographers: Peter Verluyten and John O’Hara Fred Rickey: Photos; Endpages; pages 37,9118. and 125.
