Table Of Dedication Administration And Faculty mmmees as; Actwwiaties Organizations Contents i f ae Advertisements The class of 1971 can be described in two words, co-operative and united. Whether help was needed to prepare for a prom, or merely to clear the cafeteria for a dance, there was al- ways co-operation and willingness. The members of this class stood united, not divided into factions. They were eager to contribute their ideas and express their opinions, yet supported the decisions of their officers. Helping our class was our advisor. For four years, Mr. Kinder has given up his time, ideas and advice. He did not dictate to our class, but guided it. He was patient and always ready to — listen. : ; é ‘ Because we feel our class was a truly united one, and because we were fortunate to have such an outstanding advisor, the 1971 Reflections staff wishes to dedicate this. fifth edition to our fellow classmates and to our advisor, Mr. James Kinder. ban Se : ” ye le Aes : Oo Gita ot Ooi yer te MM Og a There is in youth the unforgettable day that lig hts up all the rest of our lives. That is the day when we meet those teachers to whom we owe our first enthusiasm. Administration And Faculty Superintendent Of Schools My sincerest congratulations to each member of the Class of 1971 at Seekonk High School. Now that you have completed your secondary education, it is the hope of the entire staff of our public schools that we have adequately prepared you to take advantage of the opportunities available to you. These are times when there can be no “end” to your education. There will be no point in your lives when you can accumulate all the knowledge that you may or can use. The year is 1986, and for their fif- teen year reunion, the class is going to New York City. You could call it a repeat of their freshman class trip back in 1968. While Debbie Allenson and Ellen Caracciolo are giving last minute instructions, Harry Jones, Jim Pezzulo, Ron Kropis, Steve Potter, Bob Souto, and Gary “Crash” Jones are outside rey vin’ up the buses, which they have offered to drive. June LeMere leads the class in prayer. Dave Wilson, Norm Allard, Ralph Stadnik, and Barbara Porter have informed us that they won’t be able to go. Dave already planned a camping retreat with his ¢ ub scout troop, Norm couldn't get anyone to take his paper route for the weekend, Ralph couldn’t get time off at Almacs, and Barbara is in EVE visiting Don Ho. Brad Hulme called and said he’ d be a few minutes late. After a three hour delay, the Wises are finally loaded. Be- cause of a seat shortage, Todd Mac alister and Mike Saleeba decide to run to New York. Once underway, Mike Earle, now the president of his own chemical corporation, amuses everyone with his new yo-yo tricks. While Paul Pryor hands out candy which he “borrowed” from Kinnane’s, Carolee Pardini is busy tell- ing Deolinda Mello and Sharon Richards about her new rec ipe for muffins. 04 all of the buses, everyone is gossiping and catching up on the latest dirt. Rumor has it that Kathy Saleeba has been signed by the Red Sox along with Tom Toppin. Dave Garvey, who created the football game in senior study, now an executive with the Milton Bradley Company, and Mike Bray, who has already atele several million on a horses, is now the national spokesman for BSA. Bob Whiteley says he is currently traveling with the Olea n-Silva Circus as the human bullet shot from a cannon. Tony Khouri is also with the circus, and ea what we hear, he has a great act — trained beavers that go “whoof, whoof” and click their claws at the same time. Gus Murby, now a renowned ecologist, is roaming ifhuen the bus trying to figure out why everyone is so polluted. Gus gets to the heart of the Hose m when he fade ia Brackett, now fie owner of Campus Liquors, passing around a samples. While Debbie Willis is explaining the pros and cons of marriage to Kathy Drohan, Milton Chow is showing Al Billington the blueprints of his “soon to be built” pumpkin Ban Bob Houle says he’s thinking of going into he used tan he really means used) car business. Cur- rently, though, he’s selling soap and combs one to ties After traveling for an hour or so, one of the buses develops a terrible squeak. Cliff Saunders is woken up to ana- lyze the situation, and gets Steve Silva to give it a quick grease job. Meanwhile, Barbara Boucher, who never wastes a second, is busy waxing Harry’s bus oat John Lanoue washes the windshield and checks the oil. Marilyn Monroe and he husband Bruce now run a bus service, “The Swansea Express.” While Marilyn is trying to convince Lori Allison that she is not the “real” Marilyn Monroe, Arlene Rose is showing her ele vated shoes (aa signed by Pam Playe) to Lynne Preston, Linda Camara, and Karen Johnson. Barbara Mac ‘Donald is discussing ee key techniques with Brian Emond who now plays g goalie with the Boston Bruins. Wayne O’Hara and Tom Miller claim to be junior vice presidents of Sunnybrook, Ine. Tom says he works in the crime and robbery division. Mark Husnander and Liz Longbottom are trying to se 1 Donna Horton and Lee Ann Al- lard a book they just wrote, “How To Celebrate Your Fifer Annivennnye Suddenly, the bus swerves sharply to the left as Gary Jones tries to avoid a tree. Nancy Tucker falls out of her seat and sprains her fingernail. However, Donna and Diane Luther, Reggie MacKenzie, and Donna Soja, all quali- fied candystripers, quickly give Nancy an ace bandage and some crutches. Joyce Tucker, who is quite used to this, calmly watches on. While, Carol Gray, Debbie Gilmore, Ann Buckley, Donna Lopes, Barbara George, and Joanne Souza sneak a cig- arette in the back of the bus, Pat Provazza announces that her father was just appointed principal of S.HLS. Billy Clark claims to have a top secret job. Paul Kandarian thinks that Bill cleans Mr. Clark Corriveau’s cos- tumes. Anyway, as the bus passes through a rural section, everyone goes to the windows to wave to Jeff Karol and Debbie Davenport who now operate a commune. Their family includes some old classmates such as Denise Yelle, Rosemary Costa, Joanne Bliss, Karen Drainville, Cheryl Mederois, and Stanley Grass, whose job is to keep the grass cut. Word has it that Dave Tweedy has really struck it rich selling bird seed. Marsha Turner and Marti and Marel Hy- land are also doing well; they now own all of the Sunoco Stations on the East Coast. Roberta Zbyszewski, Joanne Amaral, and Dianne Trahan aren’t doing badly either, they currently work in the Lady Clairol research laboratory. After three hours, the buses finally arrive in New York, just in time to see the Majorettes Sue Allison and Ann Marie Leiter leading a ticker tape parade in honor of Steve D’Amico who has just returned from Mars. Before everyone splits, the buses stop at Calico Kitchens for lunch. The restaurant, now under new management is operated by Bob Khorey, Tim Lawrence, and Bob Johnson, who are all professional chefs. Greg Dow decides to stay on the bus and eat his hard boiled eggs. Well, it’s Friday night, and in New York City there are a million things to do. Tim Joost, John Brill, Ben Zaida, Vic Gelinas, John Grenier, and Paul Brown decide to swim over to the statue of Liberty. Rosie and Julie Broze, Sharon Richards, Sue Tyrell, and Sue Rogers get tickets to go see David Church who is starring ina ballet. Debbie Ogden decides to go see a Broadway play called “Big Rock at Purgatory Chasm,” starring Debbie Souza and Linda Graham, Billy Provazza, John Souza, Dave Brescia. Louie Barboza, and Charley Souza set out to search the city for a party. Jerry DelSesto has invited all the guys over to Bachelor’s III which he now owns. Joe Warrener, who works for Jerry, has the tough job of watching the bunnies. Ralph Conti is trying to find his way to 42nd Street where a new Warwick Shoppers World has just been built. Linda Teixeira takes off to Greenwich Village to see how Danny Horton and Jackie Martin are making it as paint- ers. Betsy Vermette, Betsy Adams, Pat Laushway, and Debbie Brown are roaming the streets of New York selling football tickets to the New York Jets game. By the way, this team has a new head coach, Cathy Nelson, and the team includes such stars as Bob Harding, Doug Stuart, Norm Coggeshall, Steve Hurst, and Harold Sloane. Maureen Murphy, Bonnie Wolfe, and Sue L’Heureux go to Radio City Music Hall where they enter the June 31st, 1986 Beauty Contest. Everyone is glad when the news comes that Maureen won. After being runner-up all her life, Maureen thinks she deserved it. Chris Berg heads towards the Sue Haworth Model-Fashion Agency to start an anti-T'wiggy protest. There she meets two of New York’s hottest models, Sandy DiPeitro and Julia Borges. Meanwhile, Sandy Cobb can’t make up her mind whether to go see Tom Oliver and the gang (Keith Lang and Mike Dolan) who are doing a concert or to go see Bill Roche cut his first LP; ““Momma Don’t Allow.” David Hartling has decided to liven his evening up with a trip to the library. Caren Sullivan, Anne Cimino, and Kathy Ferris take a walk to Madison Square Garden where they run into Dan Cloutier and Joe Hendricks who both play for the N.Y. Knicks. Kathy Duffell is also there with the Red Heads who do the half-time shows for the Knicks. All of a sudden, there is an all points bulletin heard on all T.V. and radio stations. Apparently, the members of the BCG (Baker’s Corner Gang) — Jim Peters, Rick LaBelle, Glenn Shaw, Gary Jodat, Tom Clegg, Jeff Smutek, and Connie Caswell have moved on to bigger and better things and are taking over the city. KAOS prevails! Mary Stellmach, Carol Grey, Marylou Andrews, and Paula Williams are seen running madly toward the buses which have just been rolled. The Mayor, Ron Colangelo, declares the city a disaster area and urges everyone to leave immedi- 63 CHET’S JETS, and gets his ately. Fortu nately, one of our old classmates, Chester Zapasnik, owns his own airline pilots Bob Seropian and Steve Walsh to fly everyone out of the city. Just as the plane gets into the air and things have calmed down, Steve Silva grabs the stewardess, Cindy Dauray, holds her at gun point, and yells, ‘Fly me to Portugal!” Immediately, the class’s unsung heroes Jim Coogan and Ed Aguiar, try to pull the gun from Silva. However, their efforts are distracted by the loud and hysterical screams of Chris Cushman. This is a shock to everyone else on the plane because Chris was always known for her quiet and feminine manner. However, we soon learn from Barbara Surette that she’s not screaming at the gunman but at Nancy Butterworth who is out on the wing of the plane playing her French horn, and Joanne Tavares who is with her singing “Fly the Friendly Skies of United.” When the plane finally lands, Debbie Dean, editor of the N.Y. Times, tries to get a quick run down on the week- end’s happenings. However, everyone is too tired to answer; especially the head chaperone, Mr. Pete Andreozzi, who is on his way to a rest home. Activities communicate that part of education never found in any class- room. vit1es wut Act Woy For the second straight year, the class of 1971 has ended Spirit Week in victory. This year Joe Silva won 50 points for the seniors when he dressed as ugly man. Mike Bear and Kathy Nelson also won 50 big ones by win- ning the skate board race. The class’s tug of war team had a tough time with the sophomores but pulled through for 100 points. The 1969 egg throw- ing champs, Debbie Allenson and Betsy Adams, had to settle for second place as they suffered a humiliating defeat to freshmen Dorothy Hodge and Ruth West. Spirit Week has been Seekonk High’s first spark of tradition. It has given the students a chance to unite with their classmates. The graduating seniors leave with a record — two consecutive wins — and hope that some class will have enough spirit to beat it. I hope you win for your sake, not mine. Because winning is nice. It’s a good feeling. Like the whole world is yours. But it passes, this feeling, and what lasts is what you’ve learned. And what you learn about is life. That’s what sports is all about. Life. The whole thing is played out in an afternoon. The happiness of life, The miseries, The joys, The heartbreaks. There’s no telling what will turn up. There’s no telling whether they’ll toss you out in the first five minutes, Or whether you'll stay for the long haul. There’s no telling how’ll you do. You might be a hero or you might be absolutely nothing. There’s no telling. Too much depends on chance, On how the ball bounces. I’m not talking about the game, son. I’m talking about life. And life is a game. A serious one. Dead serious. But that’s what you do with serious things. You do your best. You take what comes. You take what comes and you run with it. Winning is fun, sure. But winning is not the point. Wanting to win is the point. Never being satisfied with what you’ve done is the point. Never letting up is the point. Never letting anyone down is the point. Play to win, Sure. But lose like a champion. Because it’s not winning that counts. What counts is trying. Aine LEYS | uke Wye Shorts Football Offensive Backfield Coach Bob Perreault Offensive Backfield Coach 136 Ron Ridolfi Victory Of all the fine football teams there have been at Seekonk High School, this year’s team had to be the best. Not only was it the co-champion of the Narry League for the first time, but it also won the Thanksgiving Day trophy for keeps. This was the third straight year that the Warriors have won the trophy, and the members of the 70 football team are proud that they have brought it home to Seekonk for good. The team started the season slowly by los- ing two of the first three games. However, they finished strongly and won their last six. This fine record was achieved by combining the tough defense and the potent offense into one strong unit. The most rewarding victory of the year and probably the greatest in Seekonk’s short history was the complete destruction of the perennially powerful Dartmouth High School. Other exciting games of the year were the tough fourth quarter loss to Somer- set and, of course, the victory over our arch rivals, the Dighton-Rehoboth Falcons. This year was no exception. They won the Blackstone Valley Meet for the second straight year and also took the Northeastern Track Club Three Mile Invitational. In the Narry League, they were six and one with their only loss coming at the han of Somer- set. They then finished second behind es in the League Meet at Old Rochester. Although four of the five top runners on this year’s squad will be ess through graduation, the team should be near the top of the league again next year. There are some fine young runners coming up, and with the guidance of their dedicated coach Frank Mocues the Seekonk High Cross Country team should have many more winning seasons. The basketball team had one of its better seasons this year, even though it only went 9 and 7. They were still unable to beat Holy Family or Case, but they did have some fine vic- tories over Smithfield and Bishop Connally. The team started poorly with three straight defeats. Howev- er, once they started league play, they put it together. With the season half over, they were in fourth place with a 5 and 3 record. At the beginning of the second half, their chances of rising in the standings and earning a place in the Tech Tour- ney fell when the flu epidemic hit Seekonk High. At one point, more than half of the team (with three of the five start- ers) was sick. During this period, they lost two close games to Connally and Case, and they finally ended up going 4 and 4 over the second half of the season. (1) J. Provazza, T. Piquette, J. Delsesto, H. The team has constantly proven this throughout the year. An example of their dedication was shown when they practiced from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. before school started for six weeks.
