When they were finally stopped by Anacortes, they had won l3 straight games. ln the first practice game, the Cubs bowled over Ferndale by a score of 45-2l. Next came the LaConner team, which was defeated by a score of 37- l9. Arlington was next, and at the end of a close game the score was 29-28 in favor of the Cubs. Later, in a practice game which took place during the regular season, South Kit- sap was taken by a score of 50-38. ln this game Lisherness and Cogdill were high scoring men, the former making 17 points and the latter ll. The regular season started two weeks earlier than usual when the Cubs journeyed to Mt. Vernon on December 20 for the first conference game. There they defeated the Bull- dogs in a one-sided game which ended in the score 45-9. Norm Lisher- ness was high score man with 14 points, and Cogdill was next with 9 points. Both men played but two quarters of the game. Burlington, who was the next vic- tim of the county, was defeated in a close game which ended in the score of 23-22. Cogdill saved the day by running up l2 points. The next game was with Hamilton, who was defeated on the local floor by the score of 38-25. Then came La- Conner who went down by a score of 35-20. Lisherness made l6 of these pf?l1'1tS. The Cubs then traveled to Ana- cortes. where they defeated the Sea Hawks in a low scoring game which finally ended 20-9. Gee was high point man with 8 points, and Hunter sparked a drive in the second quar- ter with 4 points. The Bulldogs of Mt. Vernon were beaten the second time by the score of 37-27, Cogdill garnering l6 points. Edisai next went down to defeat by a score of 39-22, with Lisherness Scoring l7 points. The squad then met Burlington again in perhaps the best played game of the season. All the members of the team scored, and the final score was 36-30 in favor of the Cubs. The first quarter in competition with Concrete proved to be a slow one, but the Cubs finally downed them to the tune of 5l-26. ln their second encounter with An- acortes, the Cubs suffered their first defeat of the year, their opponents winning by a score of 37-23. Fianna- gan of Anacortes ran up a score of 19 points. The Cub squad then went to the district tournament as first place team of this county. Here they were de- feated by Mt. Baker and Lynden in two hard fought games. The score of the first game was Mt. Baker 39, Sedro-Woolley 36. The second game ended with Lynden 40, Sedro-Wool- ley 38.
