DIVIDING THE ESTATE We the members of the Senior Class of Sedan High School, being of bewildered mind weak heart, and on the verge of departing for realms unknown: do make, publish, and declare this our last will and testament. Article I--Having spent all our money on senior class rings, pins, commencement invitations, and rental on gradu- ation gowns, we are in bankrupt circumstances. We leave all of our unpaid debts to the freshmen to take care of at the soda fountains, our library fines, and any other unpaid obligations. Article II--We had intended to leave all our brains and knowledge to the freshmen of next yearg but, on second thought, realizing the Seniors would treat them rough at Freshman initation, we have decided to place them in safe keeping, and so request that they be left to the Juniors. Article III--To the members of the faculty in general, we will our penmanship ability, and direct there be delivered to them the following bequeaths from our personal property. Mrs. Dalton, a book on manners. Mr. Campbell, an automatic chalk remover. Mr. Downing, a square toup'ee for his round bald spot. Mr. Lawson, a book on Presidents and a special record of the Star Spangled Banner by Elvis Presley. fAlso a copy of his test--doubt if he can pass it.J Mr. Cuplin, Gabriel's Horn. QThis we obtained from Gabriel who got it from him atG.B.H.S. in 1947.5 Mrs. Wardlow and Mrs. McElroy, a well worn copy of a cheap Western magazine. Mrs. Nolan, a new door stop. Miss Pond, a new vocal cord. Mr. Comstock, a pi and a hair brush. Mrs. Abboud, a new pair of high heels. Mr. McConnell, a new whistle and a big bag of wind to assist him in blowing it. Mr. Maddux qfrom the Senior third and fourth hour F.F.A.J Resignation Papers. Mr. Millard, fifteen free typing lessons. Mr. Lowe, an oversized plug to keep the next plans for a New High School from going down the drain. Article IV--Our seats in assembly, we will and bequeath to the next year freshmen in order that they -will not have to buy season tickets for the high school assemblies. Article V--As a special division of the estate, we, the outstanding members of the Senior Class, especially bequeath and leave the following: I, RICHARD SMITH, my athletic prowess, together with all my medals, to Bobby Emery. I, JUDY WINDSOR, my ability to make good grades in study hall to Joan Fuller. I, REN'EE CUMMINGS, my sneaking ways to Rose Robinson and hope she has better luck with them then I did. I LORENE SPROAT, my ability to make good grades in American History to Sue McCarty. I, MYRNA JONES, leave my sexy car horn to Karen Freeman and Susan Brooke, who have little need for it. We, JUDY DICKENS 8a DONNIE JACKSON leave together. I, LaVONNE WALL, my height to Billy Roe. NORMA BUTTEL, my ability to get along with Mrs. Nolan to Gary Smylie. HELEN IRICK, my Drivers Training Paper to anyone who can take it for a whole year. , I DUDLEY FOSTER, my ability in track to Tiny Clawson. Use it well Tiny, it might be good for the waistline. I We, FRANCIS LOFTIN 8: BILL SPRAGUE, leave our still to Jim Potter. I, Carol Mills, my giggly ways to Joan Prather. I TRECA PENDERGRAFT, my ability to get along with Mrs. Dalton to Joan Jackson. I, MAX BECKENI-IOLDT, my ability to make speeches and make eyes at girls to Larry Hurst. I, MARTHA BUTTERFIELD, my ability to get along with Mr. Cuplin to Howard Sturges. He sure needs it. I, SANDRA MILLS, my brilliant mind to Steven Hanes, who cou1dn't have passed Algebra without it. I, ALAN CRAWFORD, my favorite pool cue to Mitchell Foster. We, PAT MAYS 8a RONNIE McCANN, our ability to go steady to Karen House and a basketball player. I, FRED POTTER, my ability to study to my brother Jim Potter.. I, BOB POWERS, my ability to get along with Mr. Millard to Bill Johnson. I, ERNEST MALONE, my dishwater hands to Grover Walker. I, KAREN MILLS, my pony tail to Steven Dyer, as it would look better on him than on me. 1. 1958 QENIOIZ OLAQQ I-IIQTOPJY On a sunny day in September, 1946, twenty-eight excited kids began their school career. Mrs. Alford was our first teacher. This was the year we ran two blocks during a fire drill. In the second grade we were under the guidance of Mrs. Hart. Our greatest thrill was riding to the cafeteria in the school bus. ln 1948 we started our third and final year in the old Magga Kilmer building. Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Parther was the teachers. This year Carol Mills beat all of us in sack races. This year we moved to our new school building. Mrs. Sharp and Mr. Atkinson were our fourth grade teachers. Next we moved into the fifth grade room under the supervision of Mrs. Sturges and Mrs. Peabody. This was the year the boys decided that girls weren't monsters after all. This was our last year in the grade school building. Mrs. Peabody and Mr. Butterfield were our guiding leaders. lust as we became the big shots of the grade school, we were moved to the high school building to become the runts . Mrs. Shup and Mrs. Casement were our teachers. Under the guidance of Miss Trower and Mrs. Atkinson we spent our last year in Jr. I-ligh. We started our high school career wearing short dresses and obeying the commands of the Seniors. Our sponsors were Mr. Campbell and Mr. Lawson. We went on a trip to Independence. Our Sophomore year Mrs. Scovell and Mr. Lawson were our sponsors. We took an exciting trip to Coffeyville. Lou Newcomb was elected cheerleader from our class. We entered a very busy Junior year under the sponsorship of Mrs. Dalton and Mr. Downing. Sue Jones, Carol Mills, and Judy Dickens were cheerleaders this year. We gave the Senior a lovely banquet April Showers . We presented a wild west play entitled Desperate Ambrose' . We ended our year by spending a day in Wichita. The time has come to close our school life at dear old Sedan High School. Mrs. Abboud and Mr. Lowe were our sponsors. We gave the Freshman a real rough initiation. Carol Mills was elected Basketball Queen from our class. Sue Jones and Gary House reigned as Trident King and Queen. The Glance at the Year in the pages of this book gives only an infinitesimal part of the activities, the study, and the spirit of S.H.S. The thrill of winning the exciting Cedar Vale football game, the Trident party, the play, the music contests, the hard-eamed A's, and the fellowship with students and teachers--all will be remembered as the Seniors close their lockers for the last time and look forward to the future. But school was not always pleasant. There were those days when the questions on a test seemed impossible, and failing to have an assignment seemed almost unbearable. Yes, our school life had its ups and downs , but the ups far out numbered the downs and pleasant memories overshadow the worries and heartaches. For the Seniors who have come to the end of school for the last time, S. H. S. is a memory they will always hold dearly. For the other classes the doors of the high school will open again for another whirl of activities, studies, and fun. The close of the school year brings on the happily contracted disease, spring fever. But not for the busy Seniors who are out on their own. The school life of the Seniors has passed but cannot be forgotten, at least not to those who had a part in its history. Those graduating who started to school together in the first grade are: Gary Knackstedt, Alan Crawford, Karen Mills, Renee Cummings, Carol Mills, Tommy Baker, Leon Wallace, Martha Butterfield, Judy Dickens, Bill Sprague, Myrna Jones, Karen Bruner, Bob Powers, Judy Windsor, Sandra Mills, Tim Chrisman, Helen Irick, Ronnie McCann, Philip Hopkins, and Dudley Foster.

GLASS Pl-ZOPHECY In the summer of 1999, Mr. Xu Mrs. John Abboud left their ranch on the moon for earth and a little visit. lt seems as Mrs. Abboud wanted to see what the call of '58 was doing. As they boarded their space ship, Mrs. Abboud noticed that the stewardess on the ship was l.aVonne Wall. Vance Lennen was the pilot. On arrival in New York, the Abbouds went to the Waldorf-Castoria. From the desk clerk they heard the swanky hotel was managed by Tom Baker. The Hotel Detective is Frank Smith, who is keeping an eye on Ronnie McCann, the famous Towel Snatcher. While in New York, the Abbouds decided to really see the town. Their first stop was at Madison Square Garden. There they saw the great Gary the stilt House playing a one-man basketball game. His wife was leading the five little Houses in the cheering section. At the stork Club, Dorothy Young is leading a hot jazz band. They say Dorothy does this to remind her of the lost romance with Buddy Lackey, who blew up by trying to play all the instruments in the band at once. Hula l-lipswinger Sutton is starring at the club. From New York, they went to Sedan to see if some if the class had settled there. At the high school, they found Leon fDoodlej Wallace as principal. His faithful and admiring secretary is Ren'ee Cummings. Seems as though Mr. Millard didn't care about staying around after the class of '58 graduated. Fred Potter is instructor in science and con- ducting a class on how to make automatic-feeding silverware. Virginia Davis is running her newspaper The Virginia Snooper. The doctor-in-charge at Sedan Hospital is Alan Crawford. His latest patient is his wife who has just had her sixth boy. Alan can start his own basketball team now. At the Sedan rodeo, the Abbouds found Don Jackson, who had just broken the world's record for calf roping in 3 seconds. On the main street of Sedan blazed a sign saying, Pat's Dance Hall. It is owned and operated by Pat Mays, l-ler star performer is Fred Craig who does a burlesque dance. Via the grapevine, we hear Karen Mills marriage to David Foster was a failure because Karen refused to follow Father Foster's life in the ministry. Also the Abbouds heard that Judy Buzzard went back home to Joplin, Mo. to sing commercials for Hi Dollar Joe. Jerold Garst is president of Sedan University. On the side he owns a filling station. Cassie Bruner is working at the University on an automatic gum chewer which saves on the jaws. , ln the booming metropolis of Monett, Bill Lewis is managing television station F L 0 P. He has a 4 man staff consisting of Max Beckenholdt, announcer: Treca Pendergraph, directorg Phillip Hopkins, producer, and Sue Jones, vocalist. Charles 'Hound Dog Jacobus, appears daily with his new dance. His amazing talent has Elvis Presley all shook up. Southeast of Elgin, in a secluded shanty, Albert Wood and Francis Loftin are operating a still-manufacturing Sneaky Peres' fan anti-snake mediciney. The chief sampler is the traveling Evangelist Billy Grayum. -'L' This year the Olympics were being held at Peru, Kansas. The Abbouds were amazed to find that Gary Knackstedt had just won the sack race championship of the world. After finding no more Seniors in Kansas the Abbouds traveled to the West, where they found Martha Butterfield running a Casino in Reno. The main floor show is Dudley Foster who relates all his hair-raising hunting experiences. Carol Mills is making her living as a professional lady wrestler. At Alacatraz prison, they find Bob Powers and Bill Sprague doing time for armed bank robbery. Judy Windsor is doing the interior decorating there. In Hollywood, Lorene Sproat has just made a new movie I Was A Red Headed Werewolf. After deciding the rest of the class must be abroad, the Abbouds tooka plane to Paris. As they stepped off the plane in Paris, they noticed a familiar face nearby. It was none other than Richard Smith, better known as La RiShard. He is the top dress designer in France. In Russia the Abbouds found the intrigueing Russian Spy, Helen Irick, people say that Helen denounced her country when her real love jilted her. On an airplane tour across Siberia, two wildly running figures were detected. It was Myrna Capps chasing Ernest Malone. The natives say that Ernest has been running for two weeks, but Myrna is gaining fast. On arrival at the North Pole, they found Eskimo Chief Running Mouth, Jim Tuxhorn and his sidekick, Myrna Jones. They own a trading post. Jim says they don't do much business because the nearest inhabitant is 300 miles away. ln Canada they found Tim Chrisman as the Prime Minister. ln a convent outside Montreal, Judy Dickens, Norma Buttel, and Sandra Mills are staying. It seems that their love affairs became so complicated that they were forced into hiding. On returning home to the moon, Mrs. Abboud decided to write a book entitled, THE SENIOR CLASS OF '58 QBACKBONE OF THE WORLDJ. The End
