Published by the Yearbook Staff of SECOND WARD SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Charlotte, North Carolina SPEEDING TOWARD A WHAT WE WERE WHAT WE ARE 2 NEW BEGINNING WHAT WE HOPE TO BE The new Metropolitan High School should be ready for occupancy sometime in the fall of 1969. The new Metropolitan High School will be located on the site of the existing Second Ward Senior High School, which is almost directly across the street from the new Education Center. The auditorium and the cafeteria in the high school will be used by the personnel in the center. The school is to be both a comprehensive high school and a specialized school. The specialized program would offer courses in the arts, sciences, and vocational and technical education not available at any other high school in the system. These would include ex¬ tensive programs in science, business education, distributive education, and performing arts. 3 TABLE ADMINISTRATION and FACULTY STUDENTS CLASSES CLUBS and ORGANIZATIONS SPORTS SCHOOL LIFE ADVERTISEMENTS OF CONTENTS BanKAmericard aimanch Mewelersjj numm ; 101 N. Tryon St. £D 3-0138 ♦ Dedicated to • • “With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right. . . ” These are the attributes of the unassuming personality of our dedicatee. Second Ward is fortunate to have such a scholarly and humble person in its ranks. He never fails to give a listening ear, an understanding mind and a warm smile. He offers the helping hand and the guidance that we so often need. He is imitated, loved, and admired by those who know him. He is sought by those who do not know him. For all of us he is the example of a good friend. We dedicate the 1968 TIGER to Mr. Nathaniel S. Hinton. 6 “I wonder what’s coming next?” Mr. Hinton has the distinction of being the only teacher of a foreign language at Second Ward. His specialty is French. ADMINISTRATION Mr. Elbert E. Waddell Principal THE PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE It is my high honor to extend congratulations to the staff of the “1968 Tiger” for a successful yearbook. This annual will be an inspiration to the Second Ward family, graduates and friends - a family which serves its fellowmen and exercises its gifts of intellect throughout this land we love and in the nations of the free world. To those of you who are presently engaged in study here, remember that every honor you win is an honor for Second Ward; every dishonor that comes to you is a dishonor for Second Ward. Therefore, I admonish you to stand tall in the world that awaits your unique contribution. May God’s blessings be with each of you as you set your sights on the unpredictable future. May fortune and true happiness be your constant companions. 8 Mi.
