HISTORY OF THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1942 As we look hack through the maze of our first three years in college, we view with no little-pride the many accomplishments we have made since we began our upward climb from the bottom steps of yesteryears. Our Freshman year of 1938-1939 had its ups and downs. Being new to school traditions, we found ourselves being pushed around. So, we had to do something in order to gain recognition from the “old timers” of the college. We got together and elected a group to represent our class. Those chosen to guide our destiny for that year were Bernard Bader, president; Helen Mcl.cn don, vice-president; Thomas Ryan, secretary; Rosemary Weil, treasurer; and Frederick Runnels, sergeant-at-arms. We were the largest and most active Freshman class ever to come to the college. Some of us were busy in dramatics, in college basketball teams, and others worked on the Spectator and on debate teams. Our first major social activity was the Freshman-Sophomore Barn Dance, which proved to be a great success under the chairmanship of Genevieve Mitchell. We had some Freshman girls representing our class in the Girls’ Trio and some of the men in the Glee Club. And to top it all, a Freshman girl was a feature singer at the Homecoming Dance....... The year 1939-1940 found us in the Sophomore class, a mark that showed an advance in our educational pursuit. It was the time when we felt we knew everybody and knew everything. With the experience of the preceding year, it didn’t take us long to get organized and choose a group of Sophomores to guide our affairs for the year. Those selected were William Berridge, president; William Sexton, vice-president; Rosemary Weil, secretary; Thomas Ryan, treasurer; and F.mmett McKillop, sergeant-at-arms. Our first hilarious activity was the Annual Barn Dance, an outstanding event of the year. Then we Sophomores ! egan to participate in such a variety of activities that if we itemized them we would indeed have a long list...... SLaitL. c,
