Our Freshman year of 1938-1939 had its ups and downs. Being new to school traditions, we found ourselves being pushed around. So, we had to do something in order to gain recognition from the “old timers” of the college. We got together and elected a group to represent our class. Those chosen to guide our destiny for that year were Bernard Bader, president; Helen Mcl.cn don, vice-president; Thomas Ryan, secretary; Rosemary Weil, treasurer; and Frederick Runnels, sergeant-at-arms. We were the largest and most active Freshman class ever to come to the college. Some of us were busy in dramatics, in college basketball teams, and others worked on the Spectator and on debate teams. Our first major social activity was the Freshman-Sophomore Barn Dance, which proved to be a great success under the chairmanship of Genevieve Mitchell. We had some Freshman girls representing our class in the Girls’ Trio and some of the men in the Glee Club. And to top it all, a Freshman girl was a feature singer at the Homecoming Dance....... The year 1939-1940 found us in the Sophomore class, a mark that showed an advance in our educational pursuit. It was the time when we felt we knew everybody and knew everything. With the experience of the preceding year, it didn’t take us long to get organized and choose a group of Sophomores to guide our affairs for the year. Those selected were William Berridge, president; William Sexton, vice-president; Rosemary Weil, secretary; Thomas Ryan, treasurer; and F.mmett McKillop, sergeant-at-arms. Our first hilarious activity was the Annual Barn Dance, an outstanding event of the year. Then we Sophomores ! egan to participate in such a variety of activities that if we itemized them we would indeed have a long list...... SLaitL. c, The third step put us closer into the class of the “intelligentsia”. During our Junior year'of 1940-1941, our class officers were William Stapleton, president; Emmett McKillop, vice-president; Nora Keavy, secretary; Julie Carmody, treasurer; and Gregor MacGregor, sergeant-at-arms. We were the great business heads. We entered into all the activities, besides sponsoring several of the best ourselves. This habit seemed to have carried over from our Sophomore year. Many of our class members held offices in school organizations and were leaders with responsible positions...... At last we have come face to face with reality—our Senior year and Graduation. We feel the throb of superiority beating in our veins. We are tense, anxious, busy. We find ourselves planning, supervising, leading many of the college activities. We chose for our Senior class officers the following: Thomas Anderson, president; Emmett McKillop, vice-president; Mary Klle'n Petrich, secretary; Bettie Kumbera, treasurer; and William Stapleton, sergeant-at-arms. I he parting of the ways is close at hand. Before we leave the sacred portals of this Institution of learning, may our four years of sacrifices, of joys and sorrows, be recorded in the annals and be forever kept in the archives of Seattle College. They represent the crowning glories of our four years of education. “BOB FLOR,” ’42.
