The Mothers have responded heartily whenever the school and the boys needed help. The Mothers have now become an indispensable and integral part in the promotion of school welfare. We can never forget the annual Football Banquet which the Mothers provide for us. Their monthly card parties kept up the gymnasium Where a large part of our fun took place throughout the year. The Italian Dinner is now an annual event because of the aid and foresight of the Mothers. The prospects of a High School dance were dark until the Mothers' Club took it into its hands and made a huge success of it. To show our appreciation of all that the Mothers did during the past year the students gave a Mothers' Day party on May 7. Mass and Communion were followed by breakfast and enter' tainment in the gymnasium. Although this little festival was nothing compared to the efforts of our Mothers and their interest in our regard, we trust that they realized our appreciation and love for them. -gasoczkted .gucfenta As A RESULT of last year's cam aign on the part of Seattle Prep students to elect their studentfbody officers, Frank McGerr received the largest number of votes for the presidency, and when the votes were tabulated it was found that Howard Picht was chosen vicefpresident. The position of secretary was filled by William Bellinger, while Martin Carroll per' formed the. duties of sergeanvatfarms. Frank McGerr, our president, better known as Bud, entered from St. john's School in nineteen hundred and thirtyfthree 119331. From the very day he came through the threshold of our institution Bud has been ver active, playing both football and baseball, an outstanding student, ancf, at all times he has endeavored to work for the betterment of the whole school. For Bud we have the highest esteem, and at this time we wish to thank him for the able manner in which he conducted the student' body while he was the guiding hand. Few words can adequately explain the character of our vice'president, Howard Picht, and the best example of this is the position to which he was elected. Howard, congenially known as Howie, entered Seattle Prep from St. john's School in 1933. He is an excellent scholar, over- flowing with school spirit, and is very active in sports and other extra' curricular activities. Qur secretary, Bill Bellinger, entered from Immaculate Conception School in 1934. Bill performed an excellent job of keeping the minutes, always having them up to date, and o en for inspection or reference whenever any of the studentfbody wishecf to see them. Martin CMartyD Carroll, our sergeant'at'arms, entered from the Immaculate Conception. School in 1935. Though only a Freshman, Marty was elected to this high position of honor, and throughout the rest of his high school days we look for great things from Marty. At the beginning of the second semester this year, the student'body elected officers for next year: William Bellinger, president, Charles Morrill, vicefpresident, and Thomas Branigan, secretary. Bill Bellinger, our president, who previous to the recent election was the secretary, is doing a wonderful job. His school spirit is one of the most outstanding of the whole studentfbody, and he is endeavoring to instill the same in each and everyone of the students. Bill is conducting the studentfbody meetings in a unique fashion, and it is hoped that his good work will be continued throughout the coming year. Our vicefpresident, Charles Morrill, is one of our outstanding students both in curricular and extrafcurricular activities. Chuck is liked by everyone from the very first time they meet him. The position which he holds is sufficient proof of this. Thomas Branigan, our secretary, is one of the exce tional football players of the school. Tom is only a Sophomore, but fie is filling the difficult job of secretary like a veteran by following the same policies of his predecessor, Bill Bellinger. 2. .4-5 4-'ff PANTHER STAFF f,J1l.vmu1Cxf1x.f , . . .,... The Echo is the first yearbook in the city to be completely lithographed, and the type of cover and binding is the last word in modernity. EIIIIOVA in Chirf ...., Managing Editor, . , Clams ..,... Again this year Seattle Prep pro- duced another of its famous football teams. Under the efficient instruction of Mr. Walterskirchen, the varsity squad achieved an enviable standard on the gridiron. Walt, highly proficient and indispensible in his capacity as the mentor ofthe squad, was well liked by all. Aside from the record of games won, he emphasized a true sense of manli' ness in the team and made it a credit to Seattle Prep. KENT The Panthers opened their 1936 season by taking an easy 18'0 victory over the Kent Vandals. The Prepsters opened the scoring in the second quarter when Wally Carroll threw a thirty yard pass to jim Bulman in the end zone. The two other Prep scores came in the second hall' with Carroll packing the ball on wide end sweeps behind brilliant interference. O'DEA Seattle Prep won the Catholic High School championship ofthe city by beating the 0'Dea Irish 6 to 0 before 5,000 rabid fans, The Panthers scored early in the second quarter with jack McKnight crossing the goal on a line plunge. By this victory Pre ained the ermanent ossession ofthe Columbian S uire's tro h , I Ptg P I P I Cl P Y' emblematic o the Catholic championship of Seattle. CONZAGA The Gonzaga game, played at Spokane, was the scene of the Panther's first defeat. Gonzaga scored in the second, third and fourth quarters, and converted twice for a total of twenty points. The Panthers had a hard time piercing the Conzaga line and the deepest they reached was the Bullpupis twenty yard line, ST. MARTINS The Panthers resumed their schedule by snatching a 20 to 0 victory from St. Nl.1I'llDS, The Pantheris hrst six points came in the second quarter when Bulman hauled down Carroll's pass in the end zone. BREMERTON Seattle Prep travelled across the bay and lost a 20-6 game to the strong Bremerton Waldcats. Bremerton scored twice in the first half on long runs. jones. Bremerton fullback, ran seventyfhve yards to a touchdown when the whole Prep team stopped as an ofhcial blew his whistle signalling an offside. The Panthers only points came in the fourth quarter on a thirty yeard pass from Carroll to Merrick. BAINBRIDCE In the hnal game of the season the Panthers trounced a much smaller Bainbridge team to chalk up a 30'0 decision. Wally' Carroll's touchdown in the second began a rout which didn't end until the Bainbridge goalrline had been crossed five times. He also showed his worth when be became basketball coach at midfseason in the place of Dr. Logan. Here he submitted a new attack and defense, and com' pleted a creditable season. ln his capacity as Athletic Director, Mr. Corrigan also organized the intramural basketball and indoor leagues for the interest of the students. Under the guiding hand of Mr. Corrigan, the Seattle Prep Panthers sailed through their basketball schedule, winning seventeen games out of a possible twentyfsix. Although handicapped by the graduation of several lettermen, the Panthers had a fast quintet built around Windy Reynolds, center and captain. Jack Stewart, flashy forward, led the team in individual scoring with a total of 150 points. Close behind were Joe Merrick and Frank Boxer. Filling the guard positions were Bill Bates and George Ryan. The second team hung up eighteen wins. From this squad Hyde, Fallon, DeDonato, and Branigan should see First team service next year. This is his first year at Seattle Prep as a coach. The husky mentor may attribute his marvellous results with both his basketball and baseball squads to his leadership, and his ability to step in and show by example, As Varsity baseball tutor, Joe has gained an enviable A reputation. ln an up and down season, the Prep baseball team, playing twelve games up to the time of printing, maintained a ,SOO average. The Panther diamond squad won six games and lost six, two of the losses going to a surprising O'Dea nine. Prep also lost to the U, of W. Frosh in a spectacular, if not close game. Prep bulwarks were joe Merrick, ace southpaw pitcher, who hurled most of the games, slugging Wally Carroll, dependable Howie Picht, and jim Keane, the smooth working second baseman. The rest of the team were inexperienced in varsity ball but showed great promise of making a championship team next year. Coach Budnick put a fighting ball club on the field and Prep rooters were proud of the hne spirit shown. Seattle Prep Everett ,....., O Seattle Prep Cleveland .
