A Company af Wayward Saints

Page 92 text:

Four hands and two pianos have become one artistic spir- it in sixteen years. This fine technique and expressive power of Melvin Stecher and Norman Horowitz was wit- nessed winter quarter in Mc- Kinley Auditorium. Accom- panied with two Steinway concert grands the American duo-piano team verified what La Prensa, Buenos Aires, Ar- gentina, described as avoid- ing the sensation of mechan- ical execution so common in piano duos. Fine technique and noble expression marked this performance which won much applause.

Fall quarter's drama schedule included three one- act plays, a touring drama, and a major production. The three one-act plays presented in Chapels were Overtones, The Last Word, and He Who Says Yes and He Who Says No. A Company of Wayward Saints, written by George Herman and directed by lVlr. James Chapman, is done in the improvisational commedia del'arte style. Harlequin, Tom Highsmith, led his acting troop CGeorge Scranton, Dan Carl, Randy Valen- tine, Rich Gleason, Don Joos, Sharon Reitz, Janis Sharpe, and Patty Labbeel in their attempt to portray the story of man. Eventually they decide to express the history of one man-birth, mar- riage, and death. The Children's Theatre Guild of SPC, in coopera- tion with the Junior League of Seattle, lnc., per- formed to some 4,000 elementary children during Christmas vacation. The Reluctant Dragon, based on Kenneth Grahame's book and directed by Dr. Hess, tells the story of a dragon who must take part in a fight to ensure his place in society. Carolyn Bremer, Carol Brooks, Gerald Bryson, Nick Carter, Richard Nlatzen, and Dick Sims, in their portrayal, enchanted three to four audiences daily during the week's performance.
