New Conservatives The New Conservatives, a newly formed organization this year, has already become the most active political club on the SPC campus. It sponsored meetings on the hippies, the Vietnam war, the U.N. in Katanga, and civil rights. The Rev. B. Freeman Yearling, a Negro who ran against Adam Clayton Powell in a 1967 special election in Harlem, addressed a large audience of students. Sgt. Alan Davidson, a Green Beret, in presenting a first-hand report and conservative views on Vietnam, .stirred students' minds. Young Republicans The Young Republicans sponsored Opportunities Un- limited, a conference presented by the Republican National Committee. Democrat, Independent, and Re- publican students from western Washington attended. Panel discussions, presented by teams of experts, were on such topics as politics, politics and your career, and practical politics. Special speakers included Governor Dan Evans, Secretary of State Ludlow Kramer, and State Republican Chairman C. Montgomery Johnson. Alpha Psi Omego - Pi Koppo Delto Alpha Psi Omega is the largest national drama honorary comprising over 400 casts in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada. Through involve- ment in both the active and technical aspects of productions, students acquire enough points to gain voted acceptance. ln addition to recog- nizing and encouraging people capable in drama, the club stresses meaningful confrontation between author, audience, and actors. Among such presentations was a play in the absurdist tradition during Fine Arts Week. Judy Barnes, Edna Kiel, Mike Hazen, Cheryl Hall-Secretary, George Scranton-President, Tom Highsmith, Larry Huntsperger-Vice Presi- dent, Angie Doane, Don Hines, Greg Kinlock, Layne Boyce. Pi Kappa Delta is the largest national honorary fraternity for forensics partici pants. It honors collegiate speakers who have worked and excelled in debate and individual speaking events such as oratory, interpretative reading, and extem poraneous speaking. Pi Kappa Delta has cooperated with the speech depart ment in sponsoring a collegiate and high school speech tournament. 'M Nursing I solemnly pledge myself before God . . . with loyalty I will endeavor to aid the physician in his work and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care . . . from Florence Nightingale Pledge Each January 'a traditional Consecration and Capping Service is held for the sophomore nursing students before they begin wearing caps and outfits. Nurses Christian Fellowship is an organiza- tion with weekly prayer and Bible study. lt focuses on helping the student see her role as a Christian nurse. Seattle Pacific Association of Nursing Stu- dents keeps students aware of the latest ad- vancements in other nursing schools and within the profession. Deanna Fine .serves as president.
