Polificol Afioirs Political Affairs Board informs stu- dents on important socio-political is- sues of the day. lt sponsored Julia Brown, a former Negro counterspy for the FBI, on the topic of civil rights, and Phyllis Lamphere, Seattle council- woman. Bob Carpenter, Greg Harrop, Larry Schmeiser, and Dr. Chiang as advisor, attended the National Model United Nations in New York City in February. The SPC delegation was chosen one of the ten best partici- pating. The trip introduced a chapel program and .a spring seminar. PAB was also instrumental in beginning the Action Course in Practical Politics, a course relating how our political party system operates and how it is organ- ized. lt helped reveal ways people could become involved in politics and win elections. Bob Carpenter Chairman Elections The big innovation in Elections Board this year was the use of voting machines. Although mal- functioning in the primaries, the machines allowed the final elec- tion results to be released within an hour after the closing of the polls. Starting from 19 candidates in the primaries, the 1968-1969 of- ficers were all elected by substan- tial margins, a welcome relief from last year. J... , -::'5i f. .ww ..4,., Religion Religion Board coordinates student re- ligious activities, promoting spiritual growth, providing mean.s for reaching non-Christian students for Christ on and off campus, and offering and pro- moting opportunities for Christian service. Some special programs that were directly from Religion Board in- cluded the help with counseling for the Billy Graham film, For Pete's Sake, Christian Service Survey which helped many organizations to find needed personnel, the two Student Chapel Programs following the Winter Quarter Christian Commitment Week, and the Religion Awareness Week. The Religion Board was also instrumental in getting Vespers moved from the dorms back to McKinley Auditorium for All-College Vespers each week, and the .attendance this year has been very encouraging. Newly elected president Clint San- ford and ASSPC president for 1967-68, John Pearson, attended a conference for student leaders at Disneyland. The work of lCAB is informative for student leaders and many have gained insight into the problems faced by our neighbors in the col- legiate sphere. Greg Brodin-Chairman

Music Music Board concerned itself with three areas of involvement this year. First, it provided a budget for the Chor- isters, which is a Music Board group fthe unofficial official group repre- senting SPCJ. Second, during Home- coming Week, it sponsored the Satur- day night variety show Things Are Different Now in which students and alumni participated. Featured groups were the Music Faculty Band, Mrs. Stan Watkins and her secret instru- ment, and many others. Third, music was provided for the stage band which performed often. ' l l I Jerry Wi lson-Chairman Greg Kmlock-Chairman Speech-A rts Speech-Arts Board is a coordinating body of two fraternities-Alpha Psi Omega and Pi Kappa Delta. It was an agent in getting three fall chapel plays presented, in directing the lntra- mural Speech Tournament and Speak- Up Week, and in conducting the An- nual Speech Retreat at Camp Casey for speech and drama majors. The years closed with the Speech-Arts banquet in May.
