Life Sciences Offering new opportunities for students, the Chemistry De- partment has been given a 57,000 grant for book additions to the library. The National Science Foundation has also awarded a grant which will be directed by Dr. Paul Lepse. The program involves two students in undergraduate research in organic chemistry. Mr. Michael Peterson is publishing material on Geometrical image Formation in Infrared Spectrometersu at the University of Washington. Dr. Wesley Lingren, on leave, is currently a National Science Foundation Faculty Fellow at Yale University. K... in Professor Michael Peterson and Dr. Paul Lepse Professor Burton Dietzman Professor Ronald Philips, Professor Charles Shockey, and Dr. Harold Wiebe A new biology committee has been developed as an advisory board, consisting of the three previous department heads: Dr. Wiebe, Dr. Shoc- key, and Mr. Philips. Under their advice, plans are being developed to install a running sea water system at Camp Casey. There is also a tenta- tive plan concerning a graduate program with a major in biology. The department has been awarded a 535,820 grant by the National Science Foundation for a summer institute in marine biology to be held at Camp Casey, Summer Quarter 1968. Dr. Foreman will be coaching a women's team at the Olympics in Mexico this year. Miss Col- leen Lynch is doing volun- teer work as instructor in water safety, first aid, and lifesaving for the Red Cross.
