Psychology Sociology-Anthropology ' Professors Kenneth Tollefson and Robert Larson, Dr. Gordon Cochrane. With the growing need for an introduction to Psychology, Dr. Philip Ashton has been attempting to expand the de- partment. Adding to the faculty and building the library are partial fulfillment of his goal. Anticipated is the estab- lishment of a laboratory for experimental p-sychology. Left: Dr. Philip Ashton, below: Dr. Donald Stevens. l I W Furthering their academic prowess and sharpening the students' aware- ness of the world are the chief con- cerns of the Sociology-Anthropology Department. On February 29, the social problems class presented the Social Problems Fair in an attempt to emphasize spe- cific conditions being handled as so- cial problems in our community and society, and also to emphasize the in- ter-relationships that exist between them. Display booths in lower Gwinn provided materials and community personnel for resource. Representa- tives included were the Human Rights Commission, Seattle Police Depart- ment, Lutheran Family and Child Service with Benji, Crisis Clinic, and Mr. Walter Hundley, Director of Seat- tle Model City program.

English Since the establishment in 1962, of a Journal for the Institute of Research at Seattle Pacific College, Professor Donald McNichols has been editor. This journal has received wide rec- ognition for some of the articles. It is sent regularly to many of the sig- nificant libraries in the United States, including Harvard, as well as to libraries in England, France, Aus- tralia, and Hong Kong. The department is undertaking a sig- nificant study during the summer of 1968 by questionnaire. Those Eng- lish graduates of the past 10 years in public school teaching will be asked to evaluate the training they received in the department. A similar study will be made of those gradu- ates of the past ten years who have pursued graduate study. The trends, if any, and other suggestions and in- formation coming from these two studies will be of help in determining the proper course that the depart- ment should take as it continues to develop its program. Professor Carl Johnson, journalism, is Youth Editor for a periodical, The Herald, and news correspondent for the Washington area for the publica- tion Christianity Today. Professors Leon Arksey and Fan Gates. Dr. Evan Gibson Professor Bonnie Heintz ,iffy V. , Nz X-1
