PRINCESS NANCY FREDRICK PRINCESS CAROL EASTON Named Alumnus of the Year was M. Marvin Wallace, M.D., one of the most widely respected radiologists in the North- west. Alumni representative on the college Board of Trus- tees for ten years, he has generously given of both time and money to his Alma Mater. He enrolled in 1934 at SPC. He was sophomore class presi- dent and editor of the FALCON, played varsity basketball and served as student body president for two semesters-all while working thirty hours per week. If it is true that SPC is judged by its alumni and their achievements, attitudes, and perspectives, we have gained admiration and the students can be justly proud of this year's Alumnus of the Year.

Organized as a creative response to the challenge of a chapel speaker from the central area, Operation Friendship continues to offer chil- dren from Seattle's central district the opportunity to share in friendship with a college student. Overcoming the barrier of race and environment, these children begin to realize that someone does care about them and is willing to share the en- joyment and excitement of new ex- periences, and perhaps to help with the perennial problems of homework. What child doesn't thrill to receiving friendly letters addressed to him alone, phone calls or even spending a night or weekend here on the SPC campus. A visit to a firestation where he ful- fills a wish to view the world from high atop a gleaming fire truck, where imagination soars and wind seemingly tears his breath from him, holds fascination for any young boy. SPC students, too, receive an educa- tion as they learn to know the streets, the clangor of sounds, and the always changing pageant of city life which surrounds the daily life of their young friends. With new insight these stu- dents realize the many problems existing in the inner-city of every large city. i r S r v 5 1 , Q,-..,evf'fe,' 'P-'MMC' ty 'Q 'f Q, ff '. afga, ' , .egg N - ,1 . -5 :Wy .ll , , ,fr 52'?L',, , . .- 94' X1 L i '- q ' it ::2,,, : - Xxx ng? .1 I E' . -. iff' z Qperotion Friendship
