To Miss hlargaret Bursell, Head Librarian, we, the staff of the 1965 Tz'XW1X1r1Sl dedicate this annual, in appreciation for her twenty- eight years ol' service at Seattle Pacific College. bliss Bursell was raised in ldaho. She came to NVashington and attended the University ol Wlashington where she received her Bach- elor ol' Arts degree in Education in 1922 and her Bachelor ol' Science degree in Library Science in 1951. ln 1957, she came to Seattle Pacilic as the librarian and she was in charge ol' about 10,000 volumes. The library was located on the top lloor ol' Peterson llall at that time. Through Miss l3ursell's continuous elliorts, the number ol' volumes increased until there was not enough room for all ol them on the top floor and many ol' the older volumes had tu he placed in the attic. The student hody was also increasing in number and the library became yery overcrowded. hliss llursell hegan plans for a new lihrary and her persistency paid oil-in 1963 the Xklcter Memorial Library, now containing 57,19-1 volumes, opened. The three-story building awed students, faculty and visitors with the simplicity and organization ol its architecture. Probably only the people who worked lor hliss Bursell knew how much ot a part she had had in the new library's becoming a reality. Also. probably only the people who have had the opportunity to work for hliss Bursell knew how deep and sincere was her interest in the students as personalities, and as scholars. She always graciously accommodated hoth faculty and students who sought information and ideas. She retires this year and her future plans include gardening and traveling. She deserves all the opportunities that will come her way. 1fVe thank her for her dedication to Christian education and to truth, M35 Margaret Bzfmeff Miss Bursell and some of her staff around the globe in the new library. 5
