EXEC TIVE OFFICER Commander Alvarado graduated from the Citadel with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science in 1960. Following graduation, he was commissioned an Ensign through the Naval Officers Candidate School at Newport, Rhode Island. From March 1961 until July 1962, the Commander was assigned to USS SURIBACHI QAE-211, as Deck and then CIC Officer. In September of 1962, and until May of 1964, Commander Alvarado was assigned to USS VULCAN CAR-55 as Communications Officer and Assistant Staff Communications Officer for Service Squadron Four. ln June of 1964, he was assigned to the Naval Communications Unit, Key West, Florida as Communications Operations Officer, until July 1966. From September 1966 until Selltember 1968 the C0mm2lIdel' Served aboard USS NEOSIIO CAO-1431 as First Lieutenant. His next assignment, from October 1968 to September 1971 was as Communications Officer aboard USS NEWPORT NEWS fCA-148l- From 0Cf0bef 1971 until Deeembel' 1974 he WHS assigned to OPNAV COP-9-ill and served on the staff of the Director of Naval Telecommunications at the Penta- gon. In January of 1975 the Commander was assigned to USS MOUNT WHITNEY CLCC-201 as Communications Officer and left there in December 1976 for his present assignment as Executive Officer aboard SEATTLE, Commander Alvarado's next duty assignment will be as Head, DCA Alaska Region, Elmendorf AFB. f'omlnander Alvarado is authorized to wear the following decorations: The Navy Achievement Medal,the National Defense Medal, the Meritorious l'nit Commendation Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Commander Alvarado is the son o f Robert and Marion Alvarado of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Mrs. Alvarado is the former Francis Marie Pike of Charleston, South Carolina. They have three children, Lynn, Robert and Anthony, who reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia. ' 11
