“BASLETDALL 1 On Octobcr,, 15 boys reported for practice in the gymnas- ium and Coach Shelton starteG to teach them the fundamentals of basketball. The freshman boys out for basketball were Janes Davis, John Davis, Leonard Gordon, and James Kernan. The'soghomore boys were Richard Griffith, Howard Shike, Edwin Dye, Ward Douglas, Lawrence Pepper, ani Rex Welch. Those ree presenting the senior class were Glen Flythe, Lawrence Shike, Janes Unsworth, Chester Garlen, Jack Keilmmi, and Hayse Greer. Frank Henry was the manager of this year's team. At the beginning of the season the line-up was as follows: Forwards, Lawrence Shike and Richard Griffith, center, Glen Blytheg guards, Chester Gordon and Havse Greer. Jack Keilman and Janes Dnsworth were the suhstitutes. They won 8 games and lost 2 with this lineup. Then Chester Gordon was operated on for appendieitis and was forcel to leave the line-up for the 1 rest of the season. Jack Keilman was waved to the snare eosi- tion, and vith this line up thay finishei the season with 20 games won and 5 lost, taking thirw place in Uoth the District ani County Tournaments and winning the Little Nine Conferen e title. . s The second team with Davin Dye at center, Lawrence Pepper ani Howard Shike at farwar s, and Rex Melch and James Lernan at guards hai a goo? season winninf 12 games anf losing 3. On Harch 8, 1040 the Basketball Banquet was held lP.CVf Presbyterian Church honoring the teams of '59 and '40, Dae program consisted of the 'Faeultjr Five --senis, an. sup.-.cyxfmfvs given by Dale Arnstrong, F1051 Carlson, Jack Keilnan, Hameld Shike, and Coach Shorty Almquist. Letters were awf:L::r-G-it .fy Ceach Shelton, and Captain Iillikin of the Roosevelt Eglin' g Aeaiemy awarded the team with the Little Nine Trophy which they are entitled to keep for one year.
