SENIOR PLAY The three-act play, entitled Usmart Boyn, written by Dana Thomas, was chosen for its spleniid character delincatiens which gave each member of the cast an op- portunity to display his talent. The play was full of delightful situations which arose when Jimmie Hardwicke, a small-town boy, invented a romantic backfround for himself from a ver' colorless east. Havinr laid claim e L .2 to bein: the sweetheart of a farons Hollywood star, he suddenly found his life horribly complicatei when she arrived at the hotel where Jimmie livei with his aunt ani uncle. After blundering through several rather embarras- sing situations and being fire? and hlred and then fired again by his employer, Nat Gill, Jimmie was able to clear matters up. In the end, the Kollyweoi star, Leslie Saber, fell in love with Jimmie. Then Jimmie, who was a play-writer, was hirei by Ltslie's manager to write her next play, ani all were hapey. The nemo of it was nThe Tangled Yarnu CA comedy in three acts! The story of the play was about Camilla Page, her cousin, Vivian Pago, and their friend, Cora Blake, who shared an apartment and food, when they had it. Their situation had become very desperate until Alex Lawton called to inform them that Camilla had won a 35,000 award offered by his magazine for the ideal mother. Camilla had borrowed a costume and wig from Sadie Stringer, who lived upstairs, and has sent in the picture of herself as the Nidcal mothoru, together with a pathetic history of a de- serted wife who struggled to raise her children, Camilla, Cora, Vivian, Stuart, and nP1nckneyU, who died a hero in the war. Stuart Brand, like the other two girls, thought that Camilla's yarn was all right until itxbecamo seriously tangled. His mother arrived to toll him that he wasn't going to get his allowance since he was claiming Camilla as his mother. Then things began to happen very rapidly. Speed Martin, a newspaper reporter, begins to suspect things. Joshua Page, comes into the scene and claims to be Camilla's husband. People begin to claim the girls as their daughters. Things are very complicated and Mrs. Morrison slspccts something wrong and demands an investi- gation. Everything ends perfectly. Vivian wins Stuart from Camilla, Cora finds Speed Martin just too sweet, Camilla wins Alex Lawton, and Sadie Stringer walks off with the prize, UJoshua Pageu whom she recognizes as her lang lost Claudius. ' During the year we held 3 number of parties, the first being a Weiner roast in Hr. Van Eaton's timber. We also en- joyed room parties on Halloween, Thanksgiv1ng,and Christmas, with our Nature Study Club, we went on a field trip. We have taken part in all of the programs presented this year, having assisted in e community program, in the Christmas play, and in the grade school operetta, Punch and Judy . ' The year has been an active one for boys' athletics. After a successful season, the Seaton grade school team won first in the Mercer County Invitational Tournament at New Boston. The boys from our room who played on the winning team were Dwight Welch, Captain, Daniel Sims, Donald Dye, Jack Greer, Kenneth Shike, Bill Sims, Charles Heisler, Dick Gladson, and Carl Kernan. Miriam Keilman was one of the cheerleaders. We also have a track team and hope to repeat the success of last year. Those in the eighth grade who will be graduated at the Commencement the last of May are: Anne Bello Blackman, Donald Dye, Charles Heisler, Audrey Meyers, Daniel Sims, Eileen Wadleigh, and Dwight Welch. THE INTERMEDIATE ROOM Perhaps our greatest pleasure this year of our Intermedi- ate Room has been just playing its part in making Seaton School the best school possible. The following diary excerpts, how- ever, tell something of our room activities. I Se tember 1939 ve are scar ng on our nTr1p Sround the World. We are looking for likenesses and differences in the ways of living of the people, in the occupations, and in the contributions to the world of the different countries. We also want to find reasons for the existing conditions. We hope to make many friends. .C2t.92aI'..l?lC'L?. We have kept diaries of our trlp, collected pictures for our scrapbook, and now we are working on our paper so the folks at home will know about our travels. We have named our paper nThe Flying Messongeru. Every month hereafter wc plan to issue it. Our new World Atlases have made our trip very interesting Our Halloween party was so much fun. Some of the girls dressed like girls of other lands. November 1939 We are all Back home in our own native land in honor of American Education Week. We have invited our mothers to a pro- gram in which we plan to tell them about our trip. December 1939 H513 Scroogeu is giving us the spirit of Christmas. We are working with the other rooms on our Christmas play, NThe Christmas Caroln. Januar 1940 The el s ave rung, vacation is over, and we are begin- ning a new year. How kind you are, New Year, to surprise us with your big snow storm and more vacation! You are just, as well as kind, for we must have well planned English talks about the fun we had during our week of no school. Februar 1940 e ourt graders with the help of the fifth and sixth grades are planning a program of original talks, poems, songs, and plays which show what they have learned about Hwheatn from the time it helped to tame man to the present means of produc- tion. How wonderful is a grain of wheat. We must pause, for at least a day, while the Achievement Tests Wcheckn our progress. March 1940 We hav5'bEon studying about 'Tho Stars and the Planetsn. As we learn about the heavenly bodies we discover our earth is a very small part of the great universe. We have brought our diary up to date.' In April we plan to work with the other rooms on the operutta, UPunch and Judyu, which is to be given in May. PRIMARY ROOM The Primary Room began the yeer with sn enrollment of 18.
