Seabreeze’ 1979 Seaside High School Seaside, Oregon. 97138 Volume LXXIII Table of Contents ‘ eewrTT ee a ee ee ee bite aees aan Aas a - ee - — The Year: The 1978-79 school year was a very active year. As in past years, the traditional events occurred: Homecoming, during which the sophomores won the Spirit Cup; Powder Puff, ending in a startling tie; and the many dances with their charming courts. But this year new activities were introduced. Student Personnel Director Carl Odin organized a trip to London for ten students, and a delightful evening was spent by students and parents at the first Cabaret, put on by the Jazz Ensemble. Spring took us by surprise, bringing with it the second annual Renaissance Fair. Students could relax outside enjoying a beautiful sunny day listening to the Beatles, or stay inside to examine many exhibits of student work while the music of Bob Dylan enlivened the air. Through fall, winter, and spring, many projects contributed to the spirit of an often delightful year. TIME title and format used by permission of Time, Inc. Homecoming ’78 Like leftovers from the hit 1978 movie Animal House, toga-clad seniors thronged the halls of Seaside High School in their bid to win one of the daily contests during Spirit Week. A yell contest and tug-o'- war were also held. When the dust settled, the sophomores had siezed the victor's laurels. Powder Puff and Sadie Hawkins The 1978 Frenior-Junemore Powder Puff football game ended in a 6-6 tie. The Freniors led before an interception by Junemore Jill Gann in the last seven seconds concluded the match. Jeff Bennett, Joe Berman, and Wade Tucker served as coaches for the Freniors, while their Junemore counterparts were Andy Black and Doug Wuensch. The night ended with the Sadie Hawkins dance, starring Whiskey Styx. Don Braun was crowned king and escorted by Lori Howarth. ‘ bel o The '78-'79 Junemore team consisted of: (front row) Melanie Hurst, Carrie Wilson, Katie Cameron, Debbie Johnston, Penny Weaver, Jan McCollom, Kim Maki, Kara Hughes, (back row) Barb Westby, Vicki Smithson, Jill Gann, Renee Gaston, Sue Sopko, Tami Carlson, Sue Chambers, and Wendy Gann. The Prom queen this year was Peggy Chesnut, who stands with her escort, Mike Banks, surrounded by the princesses and their escorts, in the picture above. Re bea: Style Show Every spring, the Pep Club organizes a Style Show. This event allows local merchants to exhibit their latest fashion offerings. What makes the Style Show even more special for Seaside High School is that SHS students may enter as models. Faculty guidance was provided by Mrs. Maryon Greenough. Tami and Tori show off new bathing suits. Henrik Bronner shows the latest in leisure tennis outfits. London Trip 10 students from Seaside High School along with Drama Sponsor Carl Odin left Seattle Airport on March 15, 1979 for England.
