Booster ASB carnival The carnival was a big success for it’s main purpose was to raise money for the Stage Curtain Fund. After the expences were paid the profits came to $850. As for par- ticipants, everyone who went, thoroughly enjoyed themselves. There were many students involved and even a few teachers got into the fun. Along with the carnival the Boosters held a rummage sale wihich brought in a total of $650 which made the profits total $1,600. 1. Mr. Buzzell takes the plunge. 2. Bruce Holt can’t bear to watch as sister ains up target. 8. Julie Mespelt giving a little “fishing” advice. Seniors capture spirit jug during homecoming Spirit soared this Homecoming Week ‘75. Tremendous school spirit showed in high class participation in Clash Day, 50‘s Day, Costume Day, Grub Day, anda newcomer to the traditions, Red, White and Blue Seagull Day. Points toward the Spirit Cup were gained by each class in participating in activities such as the Flour Sct amble, Sock Hop, Tricycle Race, Rope Climb, Jello Throw, Tooth- pick Lifesaver Race, Boy Girl Sack Race. Ping Pong Blow, Skateboard Race, Bubble Gum Contest, and Balloon Toss. When the points were tallied the Spirit Cup was awarded to the Senior Class. The lovely Homecoming Queen for Homecoming 1975 was Theresa Maltman. Her princesses were Cindy Nannetti, Pam Mizar, Teri Kaino and Christy Walsborn. To finish the week the Gulls took a final league win over Scappoose in a spirited and enthusiastic Homecoming game. This win was to be topped off by a Homecoming Dance featuring the music of Boogie Creek. The J.V. team was rated sixth, by a 4-8 win - loss record. Leslie Wickman and Sue Dichter were selected for the all- star volleyball teai. The team’s defense was strong, but good defense doesn’t score touchdowns. “The team didn’t perform too well as a whole, but there were some great individual efforts,’ said Larry Mc- Clellan following a game against Tillamook, were the gridders lost 52-6. In that game, Don Braun grabbed two interceptions, Don Senford passed for 123 yards, and Danny McDonald got nine tackles. Frosh football awards were, Best Defensive Player, Russ Lende; Best Blocker, Bob gaines; Most In- spirational Player, Danny McDonald; and Most Imprived Player, Kelly Brietmeyer. JVs record 2m4 season The ’75 JV football season ended with a 2-8 record. This sounds disappointing, but the team played very well, beating Scappoose and Tillamook in the second round. Coach Buzzell said that the Tillamook victory was the best game of the season. Everyone played well. The most yardage was made in the game, three interceptions were made, one leading to a touchdown. A great effort by a greah team. The losses were heartbreaders, usually by only one touchdown. : Troy Oesterblad led the team in the QB spot. David Fish, the team’s best yardagegainer played halfback as idd Robby Turk, the Most Valuable Player. Starting guards were Pat Nolan and Dan Brown. Tackles were Lee Banta and David Como. Lynn Brigham played center. Starting ends were Andy Dueber and Doug Doughty. David Gustafson, a guard, was voted Most Improved Player. The team got off to a slow start losing three out of the first four games. Once they got their momentum going they won three crutial games to put them into the Semi-Finals where they lost a disappointing game against Vale. For the second consecutive year Lee Wilson was named to the All-State team. Seaside lost many seniors but looks forward to a good team next year. zee 5 IF 3 | All State end. The play is based on a 17th century play by Moliere, set in modern day Naples, Italy. Scapino revolves around the story of two young men who fall in love with two women of whom they are certain their fathers would disapprove. Cast included Warren See, Don Lathrop, Tony Tillman, Jorjett Strumme, Cindie Mitchell, Tim Zillman, Mike Moore, Pat Mespelt, Lance Miller, Rochelle Brown, Tom Udell, Kathy Zillman, Laurie Moore, Tammy McKennon, Valaska Smith, Barbara Holmstrom, Carlton J. Mexican student enjoys cartooning This year Seaside High School was blessed with not one but two foreign exchange students. One of which is Juan Games sent here three the Rotary Exchange Program. Juan is from Tehuacan,Mexico where her lives with his parents and two sisters. Juan has enjoyed livng here, and wouldn’t mind Staying awhile. But next year Juan will be going to college in Mexico City to major in architecture. Juan showed to be a talented artist and drew cartoons for the Drifting Sands.Juan also plays the piano, and enjoyed playing instramuural soccer. ‘‘The people are nice and the sports are really organized. This has been a new experience for me and Ihave learned so much more about his country,”’ Juan said. Varsity second in league The Seaside girls varsity basketball team finished off their season with a 7-3 league win-loss record, placing them second in Cowapa League. Sue Dichter was high point scorer and also leading rebounder for the year. Marcia Mosar was second leading scorer and rebounder followed closely by Leslie Wickman. Kent was sent here with the help of an organizaation known as ‘Youth for Understanding’’ which is set up to help promote understanding and peace between nations. Kent spent his first five months in Detroit. But has also enjoyed living here in Seaside. Kent is mainly interested in sports such as sking,soccer and basketball. He also participated in the gymnastics class and his participation proved valuable to the boy’s track team thix year. Seagull Matmen The Seaside wrestling team finished with a 16 and 10 season this year, and seven placings at the district meet. Placing fourth at District was Dave Hill in the 115 lb class. Dave Oxley, 123 lbs, fourth; Bob Fitzpatric 136 Ibs, fourth; Pat Nolan, 141, third; Jon Hartman, our only representative at the state meet got first in the 157 lb weight class; Mike McEwan and Bill Krieger, both 168 lbs got third and fourth respectively. Also participating were: Steve Wood 98 lbs, Dean Jackson also 98 Ibs, Arly Odegard and Mike Calahan 106 lbs, Dave Hill and Bill Chambers 115 lbs, Tim Poppino and Dave Oxley 123 lbs. Craig Holt. Rob Gaines. Seaside, in the first game upset Reedsport and moved into the quarter-finals with the 47-37 victory. Seaside played Coquille in their second game and lost 46-40. With the loss they moved into the con- solation bracket where they lost their final contest of the year to Philomath 57-50. The team finished the season with a 11-16 record and tied for first place in the Cowapa League with a 5-3 record. Lee Wilson, a 6’3’’ forward was the only gull to make the all-league first team. Mike Maltman and Frank Shepard were placed on the second team. At the awards banquet at the end of the season awards were given as follows: Honorary Captain - Lee Wilson, Most Inspirational Player - Lee Wilson and Best Defensive Player - Mike Hartman. 7 6 1. “No way man....” says Puckett from his knees. 2. Coach Bruce Buzzell said, ‘“‘It was the best team I’ve ever coached.” Rally Cheers Gulls To Victories The 1975-76 varsity rally squad consisted of Theresa Maltman, Teri Taino, Lisa McDonald, Suzy Laws, Pam Mizar,Cindy Nannetti and Tami Fraser. The girls did a fine job cheering the Gulls as they won their many games. The rally also got to do quite a bit of traveling going as far as Vale and then for a week in Eugene at the state basketball tournament. 1. Teri Kaino roots for a victory. 2. Charlie Brown The SHS drama department, under the direction of Ron Widener, produced ‘‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” for the 1976 spring play. The six main charac- ters were portrayed by the following drama student- s:Lance Miller, Snoopy; Don Lathrop, Charlie Brown; Kim DeMars, Lucy; Tim Zillman, Schroeder; Tammi McKinnon, Patty, and Tom Udell was Linus. Tami McKinnon talks to Lance Miller This year’s newly-organized girl’s softball team played four games this year winning one of the encounters in a short season. The linksters finished third in the state AA tournament behind the play of freshman Brent Dichter who had the lowest average for the year and Guy Sturgeon, Kyle Weston and Jim Wakem an. The Seaside girl's golf team had a very successful year winning four Cowapa League matches for second place. The girls came in fourth in the district out of 11 aa and AAA teams. Dream Until Your Dream Comes True The 1976 junior-senior prom attracted quite a large crowd as queen Pam Mizar and her court of Tara Culp, Teri Kaino, Suzy Laws and Cindy Painter reigned over the affair. ”Seirra”’ provided the music and did a fine job as most of the packed crowed had a very good time. The junior class put on the dance as they traditionally do at the Astoria Country Club.
