Milika will be here until August, when she and Leah Griffith, will leave for Brazil. We hope Milika will remember Seaside, because Seaside will always remember her. The Birdmen invade Seaside High School. Assemblies Above, students enjoying an outside pep- assembly. Far right: girls mourning over a dead seagull. Goodness snakes alive!!! Our national assemblies of a few years ago made a comeback, with the one main difference in that this year they proved to be interesting. The better ones included the snake assembly, Paul Yearout, the Monster make-up assembly, the fly-by- sky show, and the frosh pop bottle con- cert, the most successful were those where the students were involved and many of our assemblies , this year, provided a way for students to actively participate in some of the things that were going on, Oh my, oh my, you mean ME!!! The Jr. Sr. Prom was a special affair for many who attended, In our happy go lucky ieans and T- shirt lives, the Astoria Country Club provided a set- ting for lace dresses and neck ties. Music was a bit too re- served for the tastes of many of the couples, but everyone had an enjoyable time dancing to the music of the Denny Theil Trio. gle Ne af + Ne 7 You may be President Rog, but I'm KING. s HAPPINESS COMES IN ALL SIZES, Most of the fun was in getting to know each other +s D+F, ith LT oto ’ eo oer tp Tif y. 8 LISI a Po CE — = le 5 4 2 - This year, the judges had a difficult task in choosing the new Miss Seaside. For the first time, all ten girls were evenly matched, The ten finalists were Michele Macias, Sandra Schneider, Ramona Moore, Victoria Daggatt, Betty Bronaugh, Dana See, Becky Middleton, Debi Walter, Lisa Amey, and Linda Pachal. Each girl was outstanding in her own way, and there were no two alike, And, because of this individuality, the girls found it impossible to pick just one Miss Congeniality. When the time came and they had to decide, Michele Macias was chosen to receive the honor, Second runner up was Ramona Moore, first runner up was Becky Middleton, and then came the announcement of who would be the new Miss Seaside, Dana See was crowned as the official hostess for Seaside in the coming year. 26 = 7.5 N m bh wn = Lae) The pageant itself was excellent this year because of the efforts of everyone involved, Several of the judges said that ours is one of the best local pageants in the state. There was a wide variety of entertainment which included Margie Huhta, Lynn Grenz, and Mary Craig, former state and county pageant winners, who vol- unteered to help out, The Seaside High School stage band and swing choir performed, and Betty Phillips played the piano for the soft shoe dance routine performed by the 10 semi-finalists, Musicians Joe Goetze, Dick Sarpola, Bill Hendrickson, and Tom Dye provided background music for the pageant. The best part was that the girls came together as a group and enjoyed being together, John McKay Principal JACULGY AND SGAFZ Le Dorothy Loukkula Secretary (Luke) Jan Van Burger Secretary ( Buckwheat) With the understanding that a student is here to develop as an individual, and isn't a blank page to be filled with someone else's opinions and knowledge, school can be meaningful and worthwhile, After all, isn't the most important aspect of school that each person develops as an individual with his own life philosophy ? Most people dug the sound and the feelings and thoughts we were trying to express, Like the headline''Expressing through sound we use music as a way for us to express our feelings. Music is a very im- portant part of life. We can give to others enjoyment and at uhe same time say something that we want heard, Although we didn't always have the crowd we would li ke, we did our best, and most of the time we did better then we expected, but then with a director like Mr, Hogsett and a group of people who you didn't want to let down, you often gave a little more of yourself, then you thought you could. This is the tirst year that we have had a Stage Band and I'm proud to say it is a success, It was pieced together with the sax section consisting of flute and clarinet players who took a crash course in playing the sax. The Swing Choir this year was outstanding in every way, the people, the feeling they gave off, and their sound, The Swing Choir brought home the first place trophy for the second year in a row from the Northwest Vocal Jazz Contest held at Mt, Hood Comm, College. Together the Stage Band Swing Choir had many gigs. They did an outrageous job at the Job Corp at the beginning of the year, They went on tour in the Spring. The tour was three days long and consisted of traveling down the coast and then inward with the last gig at Clatsop College, They also preformed at the Grand Opening of the Civic Convention Center, The put on many public performances throughout the area which were very good gigs but seldom did people come to hear them. Which just goes to prove that people in Sea- side don't know what they are missing. Mr. and Mrs. Hogsett did a beautiful job this year of getting the people together and getting such great sounds! = ; Stage band SAX: (left to right) Jay Hargis, Anne Buerk, Kathy Calahan, Becky Middleton, Rhonda Mendenhall, Kathy Dye and Bob Poteete. Wrestling is the most individual sport offered at Seaside. When a guy is competing, he has to rely completely on his own resources, but he also needs the assurance that all his teammates are supporting him. The wrestlers had a good season this year, and ended it by sending 4 men to state, 2 of whom went on to a national wrestling tournament in Iowa City, Iowa. Their success wouldn't have been pos- sible without the sportsmanship and teamwork , along with the skill and ability, that our wrestling team displayed. At a four way meet, hosted by Seaside Coach Van Burger presents the winnin trophy to Hugh.
