As another year comes to a close the ever-peppy spirited Rally girls look back over the football, basketball, baseball and track seasons recalling many fond memories. They won the Cowapa League with a record of nine wins and no de- feats. In the quarter finals of the state play-offs the Gulls defeated the Willamina Bulldogs 18-12. They were then defeated by Myrtle Point 12-0 in the semi-final game to finish the season with a record of ten wins and one loss. This year the Gulls were coach- ed by Mr. Chester Bowser, who was assisted by Mr. Steve John- son. Thi s was Mr. Bowser’s first year as head coach and he did an excellent job in leading the team to their fine season. After a slow start, the Gulls bounced back and won the West- ern half of the Cowapa League. At the district tournament in Port- land, Seaside beat Clatskanie and Vernonia to earn the league championship and the right to go to the state tournament. This was carried out in a tropical setting. The centerpiece consisted of an island, complete with raft, trees, bones and footprints. The ceiling was covered with yards and yards of fishnet interwoven with miniature blinking lights. A rock fountain amidst tropical flowers and moss with a multicolored spotlight made a focal point on one wall. A small grass hut, a rock garden and a coconut grove helped add to the atmosphere. The play was different from previous high school presentations in that it took place not only on the stage but also throughout the audience. The characters were called from the audience to the stage as if they were visitors. The play was a story of a whole town put on trial by their children for the death of a school boy.
