Prophecy Never had I been so hot' The cllckety-clack of my work made me feel smothered Was I going to famt It was then I saw the future I remember It dlstmctly We were bemg strapped down for the landing on Planet X when the whnrllng mlst enveloped me and I saw my classmates as they were m 1964 There was Bob Everett ticket seller for vacation toms to the Moon pleadxng earnestly wxth Vnrglma Ross to look mto her crystal ball and tell h1m whether hls wlfe Pat Schars was really gomg to have septuplets And lo and behold' The new v1s1on showed Llz Bmmcker Rose Ehrhch Brown gettmg advxce from her lawyer Carolyn Smlth how to collect payments from the latest VlCtlm Dick Brown who had left the planet 1 flew the coop wlth a certam blondel Once more a vell floated across my eyes and I seemed to see double for an mstant unt1l I recogmzed the Lund twms checklng the electrlc eyes on the elevator doors 1n the Statler on North Prom Just then Mary Nott came tear mg mto v1ew wavlng a colorful broom and Dunc wlth a look of consternatlon plteously entreated Yes wnfne I m commg The whlrllng must changed the scene Next I heard a wondrous applause as the worlds most famous clown bowed deeply and then removed hls trade mark nose reveahng the sweet Innocent face of Dave Hansen I seemed to be spxnmng through space and the next thmg I saw was a group of space shnp officers ln profound consultatxon wlth their Super Rocket Commander Orvle Jensen who with authority ln hxs voice shouted as he pomted at General Donna Nelson And you General Nelson w1ll lose your eagles lf you park behind the moon the next trip The General meekly replied Yes sxre but really I DID run out of gas and I had no Idea that my flance Arvld Shaw was wxthln a mllllon mlles of the emergency statxon The other officers ln the group threw back thelr heads as they laughed and I recogmzed among them Lleutenant Arnold Kan Captaxn Verone Nleml and Major Donald Wll son I seemed to grow famt a black cloud surrounded me Then a new pxcture appeared Green green everythmg green and sweet flute muslc made me drowsy Then I saw thousands of sheep which sheepherder Lynn Luthe was countmg Playlng by her slde were flve small chlldren dressed m simple furs whose chubby faces remlnded me of her artlflclalcloudmaker husband Ervln Kulland It seemed a dash of cold water awoke me and once agam I knew I was m the space shlp Then I heard a sweet volce say Bruce Bruce wake up' The stmg of hands on my face aroused me and I looked up to see my flancee the only gxrl I had ever dreamed about Dorls Gxrt Bruce she continued We have landed I stumbled out of the space shlp and fllled my hungry lungs wlth fresh ozone As I walked down the ramp a goodlookmg redcap came and grabbed my bags saying Carry your bags m1ster I recogmzed the voxce lmmedl ately as that of Joe Fnsher Just then an absolutely out of thls world lxmousme drove up and the chauffeur Sarah Turner Jumped out ran around the moblle and opened the thlrd door Out swept the most gorgeous VlSl0n Planet to see you I heard that your famous plastxc surgeon husband could do anythlng but I thought the stones were ex aggerated' Now I know Dr Lester Wllson has accompllshed everythmg the papers have sald Bev gave me her well remembered sweet smlle and answered If you thmk I am greatly changed you should see Patty McLaughlin wlth her fluorescent skln and Glenna Pearl wlth her changeable eyes I tell you we lxve 1n a wonderful world Last week I enjoyed shocklng people wlth my candy-strlped leg My accompanymg redcap Joe Flsher was strugglxng wxth my bags of souvemrs so I hastened to fmd a hellcopter on the top of the axrport I had no sooner reached the roof when Denny Holmes splck and span xn h1s pllot sunt of fered me a llft On the short trlp to my country home Denny told me that hxs wnfe Roberta Hyde had Just recox ered from a bad attack of space fever which she had contacted from travelmg at such dxzzy hexghts He also told me that Dorls had hlred Carla Henry Johnston as housekeeper and Alan as gardener for the country place and they were commg out the fxrst of the month to prepare for our approachlng marrnage Feellng very elated and bemg very happy to be home agam I bade Denny goodbye and approached my all glass manslon where I saw my stable boy John LaV1llette agam bemg chased around the corral by Black Maglc As he screamed for help h1s lovmg wnfe Roberta Nl6ml ran out of the stable wxth the horse whlp and saved hls lxfe once more 1 had no more than reached the house when the vxdeo phone llght xllummated the room Focuslng It ln clearly I saw the honeymooners Bob McNe11 and h1s blushmg wxfe Louella Koppmger After greetmg them I asked how they liked llfe on Galaxy L tl. for loxel After I had freshened up from my trlp to earth I contacted my boss Bob Teexm and he told me that Goxernor Mlke Mamon was wantmg to see me personally concermng my secret mlssnon and was partlcularly mterested ln flndlng out whether I had contracted the world famous wrestler Jean Parsons I told Bob that Jeans manager Lar ry Mlles was looking forward to holdmg the match on Planet X because he still had hopes of lmpressmg my secretary Eleanor Koppmger Turmng off the vldeo machme I strolled mto the patxo to walt fox dmner It was not xerx long untnl my cook 'VIaryanne Haney called me to the most d6llClOUS meal I haxe ew. er enJoyed For the flrst eyemng home I pncked up mx axr stewardess flancee Dorxs and we went to the mndmght revelry where the throaty Patrlcxa Marlena Harrow was bexng held oxcr by popular demand Greta Bradley my faxorlte cngaret gurl presented Dorxs wnth a gorgeous moon bloom with the complxments of the club Then the lnght dlmmed and they rolled out the mlnxature piano for some hot lxcks by Fingers Cade That nlght when I retlred I knew that Came the Dawn I would wake up ln my txny one room apartment ln hot New York City, facmg another day as shoeshme boy and xt really was not 1964 but mstead 1953 I would then wonder how much of
